This is a hybrid position on-site 3 non-consecutive days in Armonk, NY or Basking Ridge, NJ and two days work from home. A fully remote role is not possible for this position.
The Associate Director, Program Management is responsible for driving strategic and complex cross-functional transformation programs aimed to streamline and influence the drug development process across R&D. The programs being led by the AD, Program Manager consist of interconnected projects that are complementary to one another and ultimately build and contribute to larger, longer-term business objectives. The AD, Program Manager works with executive leaders to outline a programs strategy and how to best implement and measure the return on investment. The AD, Program Manager defines the project sequencing and dependencies to achieve the program's ultimate goals. While they are supervising groups of projects, they will also strategize, oversee, and coordinate various project products that are dependent or related. The AD, Program Manager ensures every stakeholder understands the expected outcomes, benefits and risks of the program and how their contributions fit into the bigger organizational picture. The AD, Program Manager will provide leadership and mentoring to project managers and project teams, ensuring adherence to program management best practices, standards and methodologies. The AD, Program Manager interfaces with Executive Leadership across R&D.
In a typical day you will:
- Develop, implement and manage the strategic oversight of the Program
- Daily management through the life cycle of the program.
- Define the program governance, controls, the processes, procedures, reporting, etc., to manage the program.
- Plan the overall program and monitor progress to ensure that milestones are being met across various projects and programs.
- Manage the program budget.
- Manage the risks and issues that might arise over the course of the program life cycle and take measures to correct them when they occur.
- Coordinate the projects and their interdependencies between the various projects in the program
- Make sure deliverables are aligned across the projects in the program.
- Bring cohesive decision-making to the program
- Lead and manage the program team
- Manage and use resources across the various projects in the program.
- Provide clear and accurate direction for the project managers in the program
- Leading and managing the assigned project managers as it pertains to the program and project deliverables. Overall responsibility for their performance on the program.
- Ensure the program achieves its strategic objectives and goals
- Ensure projects and programs are aligned with the strategic plan of the organization
- Monitor the benefits and value of the program over time
- Evangelize and consult with leaders across the organization to create awareness for the program and drive adoption
- Provide strategic thought partnership and manage communications across the program
- Manage stakeholders who are involved in the projects in the program.
- Partner with Program Sponsors and Leads to shape and influence the strategic direction of the program
- Develop strategy and planning to execute leadership alignment across the program
- Maintain, radiate and present project related information and metrics for leadership
- Strategically Partner with Change Management Leadership
- Collectively identify issues and opportunities as the program unfolds taking into account the people side of change as plans are put into place and executed
- Help mature the Program Management processes by driving research, innovation and best practices
- Recommend strategic direction, continuous improvements and process changes
- Advance operational and business concerns or issues relative to future business programs, projects, or enhancements that may affect consistent delivery of quality
- Work closely with the Director, Project Management and Operations to oversee Project Manager performance for the PMs assigned to support their programs
To be considered, you must possess the following:
- Bachelors Degree and 10+ years of relevant project management industry experience managing large, complex programs
- PMP Certification
- Program Management Methodologies. Advanced knowledge of program management methodologies to help structure, standardize and organize methods for the execution of the program
- Organizational Savvy and Political Acumen. Understand how wider objectives of the program align to business and strategic goals.
- Executive Stakeholder Management. Ability to work with a wide range of individuals at executive levels. Invests time to understand the needs of internal customers. Rethinks the area model and takes risks to proposed changes aiming at adding value to the organization. Is committed and accomplishes what has been agreed with customers, making high quality deliverables
- Budget and Resource Allocation. Strong knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures.
- Integration Management. Dot connecting, integrating, proactive identification and management of roadblocks. Analyzes the consistency between organizational strategies and projects and programs, and opportunities and threats related to the competency. Establishes strategic priorities through methods, articulation and negotiating with internal customers, formalizing them with Top Management
- Advanced Critical Thinking. Interpreting, evaluating, and analyzing information to form judgements, influence stakeholders and make decisions.
- Advanced Problem Solving. Proactively identify, analyze and resolve complex problems
- Exceptional Interpersonal and Communication. Effectively liaise between different stakeholders and team members. Promotes effective communication of projects, programs and portfolios at various hierarchical levels, considering the depth and information needed at each point of contact
- Change Management Knowledge. Understanding of change management processes to effectively implement changes that may occur during the lifecycle of the program
- Strategic Agility. Ability to quickly and appropriately respond to, or drive change while maintaining flexibility and focus
- Advanced Ability to Influence. Uses the knowledge of formal and informal structures to impact support for achieving objectives. Understands organizational culture and climate and recognizes the implicit constraints within the organization - what is and is not possible at certain times or positions
- Conflict Management. Manages situations of substantial changes, conflicts and impasses through good relationship and interaction with stakeholders, as well as using negotiation techniques
- Entrepreneurship. Has a proactive stance, turning ideas into real results. Problems are faced as opportunities to seek better results

Facilitate open discussions to support the identification of potential or real difficulties and challenges to delivering a successful program; address difficulties and challenges effectively and in a timely manner

$154,800.00 - $252,800.00
