The Associate Director, plays a pivotal role in the financial management for the Administrative departments within Finance and Administration,serving as a strategic partner. The primary focus of the role is to oversee financial management for some of largest administrative departments at the School, ensuring effective and timely reporting, and fostering data-informed decision-making processes. As well as overseeing the operational day to day of these departments.



Key responsibilities include projecting and budgeting, collaborating with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, and liaising with external partners to meet financial operational needs. The Associate Director is responsible for developing and implementing processes to support departmental financial decision-making and driving strategic initiatives to optimize financial performance. This position requires a unique blend of financial expertise, strategic thinking, and relationship-building skills





Job Description


Job Responsibilities



+ Oversee the operations and lead the financial reporting for more than 5 Administrative Departments. Reporting on financial performance and prepare for regular review with management. This involves understanding unique lines of business, accrual accounting, contract interpretation, and developing client relationships. This includes reoccurring meetings with the department. Provide financial analyses and modeling for decision support. Identify and drive process improvements.


+ Lead and manage a team of financial professionals, ensuring high performance and maintaining high morale. Provide regular ongoing feedback, coaching, and development opportunities to help team members strengthen their current skills and develop new ones. Including regularly scheduled check in's weekly and training.


+ Act as primary point of contact for F&A and Wharton department stakeholders on all financial matters related to the departments. Direct the execution of the annual budgeting process, fiscal year-end close, and other interim/annual reporting for the team’s research units focusing on accurate and timely reporting of financial activities. Develop and implement processes to enhance financial reporting and data analysis.


+ Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, specifically with the Associate Controller to identify and implement process enhancements and efficiency measures. Ensure clear and consistent communication flow within the department, facilitating understanding of financial transactions, and fostering collaboration among team members.


+ Other duties and responsibilities as assigned





Qualifications


Bachelor of Science and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

+ Thorough knowledge of established accounting standards and practices, financial planning


+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.


+ Advanced skills in Excel.
