Description: Partner with scientists within the Research organization to explore how cutting edge technologies can accelerate and transform scientific discovery and Research processes. Experiment and apply new analytical artificial intelligence (AI) and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) technologies to enhance how research data and knowledge is generated and ultimately disseminated. Collaborate with Research laboratory and computational scientists along with the broader Business Insights & Technologies organization to help discover innovative medicines that help patients prevail over serious disease.
Responsibilities:
+ Partner and collaborate as part of a matrixed team to explore how analytical and generative AI technologies can impact Research focus areas including but not limited to knowledge management, document generation, and laboratory operations
+ Experiment with new digital technologies through use case rapid prototyping related to areas such as knowledge search, extraction, and summarization in close collaboration with Research and Business Insights & Technology stakeholders
+ Support adoption and value realization of new technologies while generating and communicating success stories to showcase the value of BMS investments
+ Build relationships with Research scientists and subject matter experts while helping connect, orchestrate and navigate across the enterprise Business Insights & Technology organization
+ Participate in internal and external opportunities to share scientific and technical thought leadership
Skills/Experience:
+ A Bachelors or higher degree in a scientific or engineering field with 1-3 years of experience in a scientific informatics, biopharma or an academic organization
+ Hands on code generation and review experience (python preferred but R, SQL and others relevant too)
+ Experience with building and applying AI, Machine Learning (ML) and/or Large Language Models (LLM) techniques such as prompt engineering, RAG workflows including vector embeddings, supervised/ unsupervised/ reinforcement learning, natural language processing (NLP) and model fine tuning
+ Familiarity with diverse biomedical and data types (structured research data, unstructured study reports, semi-structured project presentations, etc.) along with different data management practices (e.g. knowledge graphs)
+ Familiarity interacting with different API protocols, especially OpenAI API endpoints and other cloud and data engineering tools such as Amazon Web Services offerings
+ Experience with gathering requirements for new technology development and working in an agile manner including through user story documentation a plus
+ An understanding of common research scientific platforms (e.g. electronic lab notebooks (ELNs), Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), etc.) a plus
+ Strong listening and communication skills
+ Curious and inquisitive mindset
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $97,000-$129,000 , plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).
The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.
Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
