Overview
Under general supervision, with guidance from a licensed Professional engineer, perform beginning level civil engineering work.
Essential Functions: Investigate customer complaints with regard to sewer backups, sewer separation requests, storm water problems, erosions, flooding, and other related issues; Provide information to the public and municipal officials regarding the collection systems; Assist the Engineering team with the Sewer Separation Program by initiating work orders for installation of devices to alleviate reoccurring sewer backups in buildings. Make recommendations for maintenance, rehabilitation, repairs and capital projects to address wastewater and stormwater performance related issues. Provide technical engineering support to Operations staff members; Attend meetings and coordinate communications between other divisions within MSD. Provide CCTV review and coding for quality assurance of in-house CCTV inspections.
Additional Responsibilities: Maintain records and prepare reports; perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisors.

Qualifications
Training and Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Civil or Environmental engineering.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills: Good knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering, skill in the use of basic engineering tools; working skill in making engineering computations; working skill in reading and interpreting engineering plans and specifications; working skill in analyzing and integrating data; working skill in maintaining records and preparing reports; skill in following oral and written instructions; deal effectively and courteously with associates and a wide variety of external contacts including the general public, outside agencies, consultants, and vendors; skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; skill in performing effectively as a member of the team in carrying out the District's mission and philosophy; skill in performing essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of others.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state in which the employee resides.
Pursuant to MSD's "Substance Abuse Policy and Procedures," this position has been designated as safety sensitive and candidate must pass a Non-D.O.T. Drug Test for this position. Employees occupying this position are not subject to Federal (D.O.T.) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations.
