Job Summary
This position will report in to the Substation Protection &Telecom Technical department responsible for performing electrical insulation testing of substation class equipment for routine, diagnostic and troubleshooting purposes. The associate engineer will support technical inquires related to substation equipment, review, analyze test results to provide recommendations as well as source spare parts and establish procedures to assist with substation projects.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities (include and are not limited to):
- Perform electrical insulation testing of substation equipment for routine, diagnostic and troubleshooting purposes. Review and analyze test results and provide recommendations.
- Provide engineering and technical support to districts for ordering parts and manufacturer contact.
- Provide procedures for the maintenance and repair of substation equipment.
- Maintain equipment databases. Participate in Equipment Committees and attend conferences outside the company.
- Support the NERC NPCC Compliance requirements for the Substation Maintenance field organization, including the collection and documentation of data and participation in Audit preparation and audit reviews.
- Identify spare parts for equipment and prepare SMA’s. Maintain inventory of spare stock material, spare substation equipment and review/evaluate replacement material.
- Support the SF6 gas annual environmental reporting requirements and assist in the documentation of inventory and preparation of reports.
- Perform SF-6 Gas quality testing if required
- Perform factory and Equipment inspections at vendor sites.
- Coordinate collection of data for gas in oil and trouble reports and make recommendations to adjust maintenance programs.
- Review Substation Maintenance Inspection tickets and trouble reports
- Generate reports pertaining to thermovision inspection program and provide repair guidelines to field
- Coordinate collection of data for gas in oil and make recommendations to adjust oil sampling frequency
- Attend advance training courses such related to substation equipment, grounding and safety.
- Evaluate new testing equipment and on-line monitoring systems to streamline data gathering
- Perform storm restoration duties
Job Specific Qualifications
Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, or Mechanical)
- A minimum of 0-2 years relevant engineering experience
- Demonstrated analytical skills with attention to detail as well as planning and organizational skills.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Access, Power Point, Word).
- Must be able to draft clear and precise documents outlining technical requirements.
- Must have good interpersonal skills to communicate complex technical issues to a broad audience.
- Must be willing to work OT as required and perform on-call/emergency support as needed.
- As the job requires driving to company substations and off-site inspections, must possess a valid US drivers license with a safe and satisfactory driving history

- Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC) and other guidelines related to electric transmission system engineering, design and operation.
