The College of Professional Sciences at Xavier University invites applications for the position of Department Chair of Speech, Language and Communicative Behavior (SLCB), to begin in Fall 2025.Xavier University seeks experienced, innovative, compassionate and highly motivated candidates for this full-time, tenure track, Associate or Full Professor position, who will provide academic leadership for a new Department and undergraduate program in SLCB and lead development of future graduate programs. An important component of Xavier's approach to this discipline is the intentional inclusion of training in Deaf Studies and American Sign Language; thus, candidates with a demonstrated track record of professional involvement with and/or advocacy for the Deaf community will be preferred.
Responsibilities of the position include: implementing the curriculum of the University’s new undergraduate major in SLCB; guiding the development of future graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, including accreditation; program oversight and managing day-to-day operations; leading recruitment of new faculty and staff; supervising faculty and staff in the SLCB program; program assessment; representing the program at university functions; and management of curriculum revision or development, among other duties to be determined. The Department Chair will ensure that the current and future academic programs meet the requirements of Xavier University, The Higher Learning Commission, Department of Ohio Higher Education and appropriate professional accreditation and licensing bodies. The Department Chair will provide collaborative leadership for matters related to accreditation, program evaluation and assessment, teaching schedules, and recruitment of new faculty and staff. The Department Chair is expected to have an on-campus physical presence as part of their role. The successful candidate will work directly with the Dean of the College of Professional Sciences, and as a faculty member will teach classes and perform other typical faculty duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:
- Research doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, or other communication sciences and disorders-related discipline
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP or CCC-A)
- Eligibility for Ohio licensure
- At least 5 years of experience teaching in a speech, language, or audiology program
- At least 3 years of clinical experience as Audiologist or Speech Pathologist
- Excellent communication skills; strong commitment to working as part of a collaborative team
- Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service
- Knowledge of and experience with accreditation and credentialing processes for speech-language pathology and audiology
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum revision/development, program planning, program evaluation, and student learning outcomes assessment
- Passion for exciting and motivating students from diverse and under-privileged backgrounds
- Contribution to a campus climate that supports equity, diversity, and inclusion
Desirable Qualifications:
- Prior leadership experience in an academic position
- Experience working with the Deaf community
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with and coordinating groups of individuals
- Experience in grant writing and management.
- Experience in administration of clinical services - including supporting operational efficiency, productivity, and high-quality patient experiences
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with community resources, hospitals, training sites for graduate and undergraduate students
Position:
Nine-month faculty contract with Department Chair responsibilities and resources, and summer teaching opportunities.
Salary/Rank:
Associate/Full professor with salary commensurate to qualifications and experience.
