Overview:The Associate General Counsel will serve as a trusted advisor and business partner to the company, with a particular focus on marketing, contracts and data/privacy matters. In this role, the Associate GC will work with a variety of business units impacting important business decisions while carrying out the legal department’s mission to contribute to Planet Fitness’ success by I) providing clear, timely, thoughtful, professional and practical legal advice; II) recommending and implementing appropriate policies, practices and procedures to mitigate risk and control costs; III) being effective leaders with a focus on strategy, efficiency and collaboration; and IV) contributing to Planet Fitness’ fun, inclusive, and Judgement-Free culture.
This is considered a hybrid role with the ability to work in the Hampton, NH office at least three days a week.
Responsibilities:
- Assume primary responsibility for advising the business on legal compliance with respect to all facets of the Company’s marketing and promotional activities.
- Assume primary responsibility for consumer protection compliance.
- Assume primary responsibility for data and privacy-related issues.
- Negotiate, draft, review, manage, and advise on a wide variety of contracts including marketing and commercial vendor contracts, complex strategic partnerships, and membership-related agreements.
- Collaborate with business units to mitigate risk and respond to business challenges and opportunities.
- Efficiently and effectively manage outside counsel subject matter experts.
- Conduct legal research, provide advice, and present recommendations on various legal and business issues.
- Draft, review, and update company policies and procedures necessary to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
- Stay up-to-date and advise stakeholders on relevant industry standards.
- Stay abreast of current and pending changes in law potentially impacting the business.
- Bachelor’s degree and Law degree from accredited institutions, required
- Admission to the bar in one or more states
- 5-8 years of relevant legal experience, including law firm experience
- Experience advising on commercial contracts, required
- Experience advising on consumer privacy and data security issues, preferred
- Ambition to increase legal and business knowledge and skills in areas relevant to the business
- Excellent project management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional business judgment, including the ability to think strategically and give practical advice while balancing business needs with legal risks
- Extremely detail-oriented, efficient, and organized with an exceptional ability to establish priorities and objectives
- Exceptional presentation and communication skills along with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, including executives and Board of Directors
- Able to establish and maintain effective, collaborative work relationships with diverse individuals, internally and externally
