What you’ll do
- Report to the General Counsel and assist in servicing the company’s corporate and real estate matters for all Divisions
- Represent Mattamy Homes legally in interactions with real estate and construction contractors, vendors and suppliers
- Draft, review and negotiate complex real estate contracts, trade partner agreements, land use agreements, easements, development agreements, joint development agreements and other agreements related to land use and development
- Conduct and manage title and survey review for real estate transactions. Respond and negotiate with title underwriters and opposing parties’ attorneys regarding title objections
- Draft and manage Mattamy Homes’ Home Purchase Contracts and Addenda
- Review community development district, improvement district and special district bond financing documents and other agreements
- Review and advise business leaders regarding environmental assessments and environmental law
- Assist the General Counsel with (1) keeping the company compliant with all applicable laws and regulations, including privacy laws, (2) reviewing marketing collateral, (3) managing intellectual property rights, (3) managing the company’s various corporate entities, and (5) managing legal aspects of the company’s various licenses
- Other duties as assigned
What you bring
- J.D. degree from an accredited U.S. law school and an active license to practice law in Florida
- Must be an active member of the FL or TX Bar Associations
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in the practice of real estate, construction, land use and community association law at a top law firm with proven representation of homebuilders and/or land developers and/or large homebuilding and land development company
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate, demonstrate diplomacy, and interact well with senior business and legal leadership
- Highly disciplined with the ability to assess risk, and provide timely, strategic and practical legal advice in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Strong drafting, negotiating and writing skills, including attention to detail, as well as the ability to solve problems in an efficient, business-friendly manner in time-pressured situations
- Ability to identify and analyze complex issues and devise creative solutions and strategies for resolution
- Ability to handle a high volume of work, prioritize appropriately, and work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel and PowerPoint, Abode Pro, DocuSign and Litera Compare
- Be willing to travel upon request to various company offices and locations, if needed
Bonus points
- Prior in-house counsel experience preferred
- Experience on law school law review preferred
