PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) was developed to answer the many problems around caring for frail seniors. The PACE model is centered on the belief that it is better for the well-being of seniors with chronic care needs and their families to be served in their community whenever possible.
Seniors, their family members, and caregivers face many issues, including transportation to appointments, management of medications, coordination of medical care from different specialists, lack of social interaction, and ability to stay alone at home. On Lok PACE participants receive in home care services and transportation to a On Lok PACE center for primary medical care, social and recreational activities, and other senior care services.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Associate Medical Director manages the employed medical staff, oversees medical
and nursing practice in the clinics, provides oversight in the implementation of expansion
clinics and assists the Medial Director in ensuring quality of clinical care. The position
reports to the Health Plan Medical Director
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides overall clinical supervision of care given by staff physicians and nurse practitioners in On Lok's directly
operated centers.
2. Conduct individual conferences to discuss cases and problems
3. Performs periodic chart review of routine progress notes and preventive health maintenance schedules
4. Provides clinical coverage for staff physicians as needed
5. Attends interdisciplinary team meetings to maintain overview of issues as they pertain to medical care
6. Provides educational in-services for the interdisciplinary team
7. Other related duties as assigned
Administrative:
1. Provide administrative oversight in the absence of the Plan Medical Director
2. Performs performance reviews of medical staff members and advises Medical Director on performance levels
3. Ensures adequate medical staffing of clinics
4. Collaborates with Plan Medical Director on oversight of quality assurance activities related to clinical care being
specifically responsible for the areas of preventive health standards, medical care review, advance directives,
comfort care and interdisciplinary care.
5. Assists in preparing for Audit and Licensing reviews
6. Advises Medical Director on implementation of expansion centers
7. Serves on the following Health Plan Quality Assurance committees: Quality Management Team (QMT),
Credentials (Sub-Committee), Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Infection Control and any Ad Hoc committees as
needed
8. Participants in monthly meetings with Medical Director to discuss program issues and needs
9. Collaborates with the Director of Program Operations on issues of interdisciplinary care and staffing
10. Represents On Lok in the community; including Physicians, other healthcare providers and consumer groups.
QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge, skills, abilities):
1. MD Degree and current and valid license to practice medicine and surgery in the State of California without
restrictions
2. Current and valid Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate
3. Board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice
4. Current and active Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatrics
5. Current certification in Basic Life Support or Advanced Cardiac Life Support
6. At least 3-4 years of experience in physician staff management
7. At least 5 years' experience in clinical practice of Geriatric Medicine, preferably with interdisciplinary teams
required
8. Excellent skills in written and verbal communication
9. Experience in quality assurance and utilization review desirable
10. Willingness to work within the framework of an interdisciplinary team in the On Lok health delivery system
11. Sensitivity to the health benefits and needs of a multi-ethnic aged population
