The Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Associate Program Director to join its Internal Medicine Residency Program. This position is intended for faculty with experience in teaching, leadership, innovation, and clinical service in an internal medicine residency program. Board certification in internal medicine is required; individuals with subspecialty training are also encouraged to apply.
This University-based program is sponsored by Florida Atlantic University in collaboration with our Graduate Medical Education Consortium. The Internal Medicine Residency utilizes three Consortium hospitals (Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Bethesda Hospital East, and Delray Medical Center) to provide a strong clinical experience and a broad diversity of patients. Residents are exposed to a comprehensive and balanced curriculum that prepares residents for careers in general internal medicine or medical subspecialties. Additionally, they have access to the College of Medicine’s Simulation Center.
The Associate Program Director will assist the Program Director and have a flexible role including direct teaching of residents and medical students, development of instructional materials and curricular design, supervision and evaluation of residents, advising and mentoring residents, and leadership in research and scholarship. The clinical component of this position will include inpatient hospital responsibilities serving as a teaching attending.
Responsibilities:
+ Reports directly to the Program Director.
+ Take an active role in curriculum development and implementation, resident teaching and evaluation, continuous program improvement, and faculty development.
+ Take an active role in the simulation curriculum for the residency program.
+ Assist in the development and implementation of Performance Improvement Plans for struggling residents.
+ Promote a learning environment conducive to educating the residents in each of the ACGME competencies.
+ Evaluate and report to the PD the supervising interactions and/or learning environment that does not meet the program’s standards.
+ Serve as teaching faculty in the hospital inpatient settings.
+ Dedicate no less than 20 hours per week to the administrative and educational activities of the internal medicine educational program and receive institutional support for this time.
+ Serve on the Curriculum Committee, Clinical Competency Committee, and Program Evaluation Committee.
+ Assist in the recruitment process including potentially reviewing applications, selecting candidates to interview, performing interviews, and assisting in creating a rank list.
+ Participate in academic societies and in educational programs designed to enhance their educational and administrative skills.
+ Mentor and guide residents in quality improvement projects, case reports, and research projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited institution and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher is required.
• A Florida medical license or eligibility for Florida licensure is required.
• American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or American Board of Osteopathic Internal Medicine (ABOIM) board certification in Internal Medicine.
• A track record of clinical excellence and experience is preferred.
• At least one year of a significant teaching role in an internal medicine residency program with demonstrated teaching excellence is preferred.
• Strong ethical and professional conduct is required.
• Ability to effectively communicate with different members of the healthcare system as well as a variety of learners from varied backgrounds is required.
• Experience working directly with people from various backgrounds is preferred.
