The firm is hiring for the position of Associate to join their growing team of Real Estate Investment professionals. In this role you will conduct due diligence on private real estate managers and managing those relationships. You will be responsible for preparing investment due diligence reports to be presented to the firm's investment committee and monitoring those funds post approval.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in the underwriting and due diligence process for potential private real estate fund investments, including general partner assessment, performance analysis, market research, site visits, and document review.
- Write investment due diligence reports based on underwriting.
- Prepare for and lead meetings with real estate managers and conduct ongoing due diligence.
- Form an independent opinion about advisory board or fund voting matter and be able to prepare recommendations to clients.
- Conduct ongoing private equity real estate monitoring along with generating recommendations on voting matters.
- Monitor real estate investments on a quarterly basis including update calls, attending webinars, and attending and writing reports on annual meetings.
- Write memos around partnership developments, limited partner agreement amendment recommendations, and watchlist reports.
- Gather, analyze, and interpret fund and portfolio track records to provide critical insights on trends and variances.
- Construct an argument around an opinion and efficiently communicate that argument both verbally and in written materials, as well as be able to defend position in a team environment, including Investment Committee meetings.
- Collaborate with the firm's client services team on monthly client calls and ad hoc research and analysis for clients.
- Complete deep dive on assessment reports for at-risk funds not meeting performance or organizational expectations.
- Perform special ad hoc projects on a frequent basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 2-3 years of experience in real estate private equity/credit, investment banking or related real estate finance field.
- BA/BS in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Real Estate, or related field.
- Good accounting and finance knowledge.
- Demonstrated track record of academic and professional success.
- High proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, experience with Bloomberg a plus.
- Based in Marina del Rey/Los Angeles, with availability to travel both domestically and internationally.
