Job Title: Athletic Coach
Job Status: Part-time (up to 15 hours)
Job Summary: Under very general supervision, the Athletic Coach provides an enjoyable and safe sporting experience for an assigned group of athletes, while they learn individual and team game skills, sportsmanship and fair play.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement various athletic activities in a safe and comfortable learning environment for all students
- Teach fundamental skills to students while emphasizing skill development, fair play, teamwork, sportsmanship and fun
- Train and coach the members of a team through teaching skills and drills
- Assess player’s skill and assign team positions
- Determine game strategy based on the team’s capabilities
- Maintain and secure all sports equipment
- Manage court care and maintenance
- Help complete administrative tasks including record keeping, strategy plans and payments
- Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury
- Represent ACCESS and the recreation program in a professional manner
- Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities
- Maintain constant check of student athletes’ abilities and conduct
- Assist with student recruitment
- Support student academic expectations, responsibilities and achievements
- Help coordinate the development and promotion of the assigned sports program
- May facilitate rental of gymnasium
- Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Sports, games and their rules
- Safety procedures and safe play
- CPR
Skill in:
- Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications for program area and other applications, including Microsoft Office and Google Docs
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively with adults and youth
- Be a team player
- Teach students how to play appropriately
- Keep information confidential
Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:
- Minimum Degree Required:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent

- At least 2 years of experience in an educational setting or sports setting or any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training approved by Human Resources
- Must complete six hours of training in coaching or a related matter
Licenses/Certifications:
- Licenses/Certifications Required at Date of Hire:
- CPR Certification
Working Conditions:
Hours: Normal business hours. Work after regular business hours will be required
Travel Required: Some local travel
Working Environment: Climate controlled environment
