The athletic trainer provides treatment, first aid and sports medicine coverage for athletic events according to contract with designated school. Activities of this position are patient focused in accordance with physician orders, and affiliate policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:- (50%)* Responsible for the assessing, treating, preventing, and rehabilitating athletic injuries for the designated school, including practice and game coverage per contract.
- (30%)* Provides treatment techniques to facilitate and restore optimal functioning performance specific to certified athletic trainer’s patient care area.
- (20%)* Completes daily documentation necessary for billing procedures per affiliate policy and in compliance with regulatory agencies. Records and tracks daily activities at designated school.
Athletic Trainer Licensure in the State of Michigan.
Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training.
Required Education:- Athletic Trainer Licensure in the State of Michigan.
- Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training.
- Successful completion of MyMichigan Health and affiliate specific orientation.
- Successful completion of new hire competency.
- Interpersonal skills needed for effective verbal and written communication in the English language to interact with people individually and in a group at all levels and to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrating problem solving and organizational skills, time management skills and initiative.
- Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is required and must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
- Ability to work where employee may be exposed to communicable diseases.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to demonstrate and teach selected treatment routines to appropriate professional and non-professional individuals.
- Prefer one to three years of experience working in a sports medicine clinic or university setting.
- Documents the patient/family/caregiver response to treatment and changes in patient condition per affiliate documentation policies and/or standards and in compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Educates patient/family/caregiver in home education program using relevant and effective teaching methods.
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication with all internal and external customers to maximize quality of patient care including coordination with interdisciplinary team members.
- Promotes education and development among staff, students, and other health care providers using relevant and effective teaching methods. Promotes process improvement.
- Assists with program development.
- Provides feedback in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings as appropriate.
- Demonstrates commitment to MidMichigan Health and specific affiliate mission as evidenced by customer service, quality of service, and teamwork.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient and affiliate information in accordance with MyMichigan Health and affiliate policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time.
May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.
Must follow MidMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.
May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Medium.
Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
