Position Summary:
Responsible to lead the Assembly, Integration & Test (AI&T) team in development and execution of assembly, integration and test requirements and procedures that support satellite bus, payload and space vehicle production, qualification and launch activities. Applies extensive knowledge of manufacturing and test engineering to the completion of projects as well as to the development of the team.
Position Responsibilities:
Responsible for managing the development and implementation of satellite system hardware assembly, integration, and testing processes. As a leader, the person in this role will be hands-on, working side by side in a cleanroom environment with the manufacturing and engineering teams. Also responsible for maintaining frequent interaction with Operations and Quality to develop and drive a robust production process including manufacturing engineering, risk mitigation, development of test procedures and repair procedures.
Team & Facility Management
- Ensures testing facility requirements are met and maintained to support production line test equipment.
- Leads program production planning, management, cost, and scheduling activities
- Coordinates with Operations Manager to ensure support team capacity and productivity are commensurate to the demands of the program payload and space vehicle production, test and launch activities.
- Provides or arranges for training and leadership to engineers and test technicians.
- Lead role in the development of space vehicle level production and testing policies and procedures.
- Serves as the face of AI&T Manager to US customers.
Integration and Test
- Defines requirements to drive or support the development manufacturing processes, procedures and detailed work instructions for the modification, assembly, and test of aerospace equipment.
- Oversees the development and implementation of hardware and software configuration management systems.
- Oversees the development, operation, and maintenance of Mechanical and Electrical test equipment
- Coordinates with Systems Engineering team to define and implement production test requirements and procedures to be implemented in production, qualification, and launch.
- Support process risk assessments (PFMEA) and mitigations.
- Conducts nonconformity reviews to support the investigation and development of mechanical repair procedures and the prescription of the necessary penalty or regression testing.
- Coordinates with support functions to resolve issues and enable achievement of on time delivery of high-quality products.
- Drives continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead team in the development and deployment of EGSE and test solutions that support production line, test and launch campaigns.
- Technical project management of procurement activities for EGSE and MGSE necessary to support program execution.
- Lead cross functional team needed to develop and execute integration and test campaigns.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Oversees creation of AI&T engineering documentation to include guidelines, processes, and procedures.
- Manages staffing, design adjustments, schedule, and cost targets aligned with Airbus U.S. Defense Space Systems footprint execution roadmap for future business captures.
Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:
Education:
- Preferred Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or electrical engineering, with a Master's degree in Engineering and/or Management.
Experience:
- 7+ years supervising or managing an engineering or engineering technician team.
- 10+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing engineering, operations, testing or related field.
- Experience in systems functional, qualification and production testing.
- Experience in EGSE and MGSE development.
- Preferred: Experience in satellite bus, payload and space vehicle level integration and test.
- Preferred: Experience supporting environmental test and launch campaigns EGSE and MGSE.
Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

- Production, qualification and acceptance test requirements, procedures, and processes
- Identify, document and report production non-conformances
- Proficiency with various I&T engineering tools and processes

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):
- Mature technical writing skills.
- Strong ability to understand and teach technical procedures.
Technical Systems Proficiency:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience supply management (MPR/ERP) a plus.
Travel Required:
- Periodic travel (up to 25%) to US Airbus facilities, partner companies or international travel to collaborate with European Airbus counterparts.

Clearance:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
- Active DoD security clearance at Secret or above is highly desirable
Nature of Contacts:
- Role includes involved communication with internal and external parties on a frequent basis.
Physical Requirements:
- Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents.
- Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds including safety warnings or alarms.
- Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment.
- Carrying: able to carry documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg.
- Lifting: able to lift documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg.
- Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.
- Squatting / Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
- Standing: able to stand for long periods of time.
- Walking: able to walk through office and outside areas including uneven surfaces.
