The Director of Advanced Practice guides the Surgery care division in APP strategy, workforce planning, operations and optimization efforts. Responsible for partnering with physician and administrative care division leaders in decision-making as an APP representative in service line operational meetings. The Director of Advanced Practice leads departmental Chief APPs, Assistant Directors of APPs (ADAPs) and serve in an APP leader role for those departments that do not have a designated Chief APP. The Director of Advanced Practice shall directly report to the Senior leader of the Care Division or Service line and matrix to the Chief Advanced Practice Executive.
Essential Functions- Performs all duties and responsibilities as outlined in the clinical APP job description that fits their area of practice. Maintains a clinical practice (minimum of 20% of time).
- Responsible for addressing, tracking and resolving quality concerns.
- Liaison to the Center for Advanced Practice and the MG APP Chief Council.
- Ensures APP scope of practice is adhered to by annual review of service line collaborative practice agreements and delineation of privileges document. Serves as a liaison to Center for Advanced Practice and Medical Staff Services for coordination of amendments to those documents.
- Responsible for communicating system, state, and national policy changes involving APP practice to their service line APPs.
- Serves as an expert in APP billing, physician-APP shared billing and other APP reimbursement issues for service line.
- Serves as the liaison for all APP student clinical placement requests within service line.
- Assists in the review and development of clinical and operational policies and procedures.
- Networks and builds relationships with local APP organizations and universities to ensure continued recruitment efforts including the Center for Advanced Practice APP Fellowship.
- Serves as a liaison to collaborating physicians, APPs, patients, nursing units and others as necessary.
- Attends and participates in meetings and committees as designated.
- Onboarding of APPs into division (privileges, payer enrollment, service line orientation & contract deployment).
- Responsible for budgeting, APP workforce planning & innovation.
- Tracking APP metrics/scorecard (quality/patient experience) for Surgery Care division.
- Accountable for operationalizing any major initiatives of the medical group for APPs (contracts, compensation, incentives, campaigns) for Surgery Care Division.
- Conducts exit interviews for APPs exiting the Surgery Care Division.
- Responsible for leading APP Recognition for Surgery Care Division, including a repository for connect to purpose stories involving APPs.
Physical Requirements
Responsible to work in a safe manner. Work requires frequent moving from one area to another, coordinating, and communicating with persons in various disciplines and agencies.
Education, Experience and CertificationsNurse Practitioner: Masters Degree required; Doctorate of Nursing Practice preferred.
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of practice of North Carolina or South Carolina respectively. Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in state in which work is being completed. South Carolina Nurse Practitioners must be eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing. Must have or be eligible for a DEA license. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider from AHA required. Expiration date must be more than 90 days from date of beginning practice. Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required. Board certification preferred according to population served. Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate. Specialty-specific experience required; minimum of 2 years of management/supervisory experience preferred.
Physician Assistant: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Masters Degree required. Clinical or Leadership Doctorate preferred. Approved to practice as a Physician Assistant by the Medical Board in the state of practice and in which work is being completed. South Carolina Physician Assistants must be eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Medical Board. Must have or be eligible for a DEA license. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider from AHA required and expiration date must be more than 90 days from date of beginning practice. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants required. Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate. Specialty-specific experience required; minimum of 2 years of management/supervisory experience preferred.
