The Auditor-Controller's Department has a paid internship opportunity.
The intern will report to the Principal Accountant in the Accounts Payable Unit and be assigned to review and approve vouchers, including regular vouchers, employee reimbursements, procurement cards, and revolving fund vouchers. The intern will also assist the Accounts Payable Team with other tasks such as warrant distribution, wire transfers, running pay cycles, processing stops/ cancels of County warrants, and reaching out to departments regarding any voucher discrepancies and outstanding vouchers.
The internship will be located in Riverside with a 1-year minimum commitment. The position requires the intern to report on-site with an anticipated maximum 20-40-hour workweek.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The Student Interns essential duties include the following but are not limited to:
- Provide guidance regarding County policies and procedures
- Review and approve County-wide PO/contract vendor invoices, employee reimbursements, procurement cards
- Assist with month-end and year-end close job assignments
- Process journal entries, and assist with reconciliations as necessary
- Process credit card payments, work on the E-Payables expiring logs, and perform other tasks and job duties for the E-Payables program
- Practice identifying and presenting item issues to manager/supervisor for review/resolution and assist departments and co-workers with troubleshooting voucher issues
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average : 2.5 GPA required. Proof of most current unofficial/official transcript with cumulative GPA must be provided at time of application .
Education: Current enrollment in a Bachelor's program at an accredited college or university or Master's Program in the following areas of study: Accounting, Finance , Public or Business Administration. All recent college graduates are eligible to intern for up to one year (twelve months) from their graduation date. Graduation date is not to exceed twelve month maximum during the duration of the internship.
The candidate must be self-motivated and have strong organizational skills. The ideal candidate will have the ability to multi-task between assignments with tight and competing deadlines. Be capable of organizing, planning, and assisting with other Account Payable projects or tasks as needed.
Applicants must be current students or recent graduates in the field of Accounting and Finance or a closely related field with a concentration in Accounting.
