About the Job
Selectek has an immediate need for an Automation Controls Engineer near the metro Birmingham area.
Will consider out of state candidates that are local to the southeast and accessible to a major airport.
Responsibilities:
This is a road warrior controls engineer. You will be travelling to customer sites (Automotive plants, palletizing plants, steel factories, etc.) and doing "from scratch" PLC programming.
Sponsorship: No
Pay range: $30/hour - $55/hour ($62,000 - $114,000 annual salary)
Term of assignment: 6 months temp to direct OR possible direct hire
Pay method when direct: Hourly (You will be paid hourly and eligible for OT paid at time x 1.5)
Location of job: Candidate does NOT have to live in Birmingham - ATL, NC, FL, TN (close by southeastern states are options); Need to be able to travel to an airport/rent car, when needed.
Hours and shift: Monday Friday, core hours 8AM - 5PM
Work from home/remote: Yes (see above)
Overtime expected: Yes, highly dependent on current projects.
Travel: 50%+
Work attire: Depends on client site requirements

- Set up and configuration of servo drives, VFDs.
- Programming Siemens, Allen Bradely PLCs, and HMIs (from scratch programming and program development) Rslogix, factory talk, studio 5000
- New equipment and equipment modifications, provide design/specification/start-up/commissioning for the controls portion of the project.
- Existing equipment, provide troubleshooting of electrical and electronic controls problems or breakdowns.
- Engineer and specify correct hardware and software needed for automation projects
- 50-75% Travel. "Road Warrior"
- Siemens, Allen Bradely PLCs, and HMIs (from scratch programming and program development) Rslogix, factory talk, studio 5000
- Experienced with setting up, configuring safety (light curtains area scanners), safety over network protocols.
- Electrical, IO, and panel wiring / troubleshooting
- Experience with configuring communications to other external devices including robots.
- Motion control programming experience
- Experience with vision inspection systems, set up and configuration.
- Ethernet, profinet, devicenet, can bus experience.
- SQL Database, VMware virtual environment administration, Networking
- Ability to develop engineering documents, including bills of material, panel layouts and electrical schematics.
- Ability to transform requirements into working systems from a blank sheet of paper
- Able to travel frequently (50-75%) to client sites, mainly located in the Southeastern US.
