About the Job
Heartland Controls is seeking a skilled and innovative Automation Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automation systems to streamline processes and improve operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automation technologies, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage complex projects from conception to completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and implement automation solutions, including control systems, PLC programming, and HMI interfaces.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and deliver automation systems that meet business objectives.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade existing automation equipment and software to ensure optimal performance.
- Manage all phases of automation projects, from conceptual design to installation, commissioning, and testing.
- Develop and maintain documentation, including system designs, wiring diagrams, and user manuals.
- Monitor and analyze system performance to identify areas for improvement and implement enhancements.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry regulations in all automation projects.
- Provide training and technical support to internal teams on new automation systems and technologies.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing automation systems, including PLCs, SCADA, or robotics.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as ladder logic, structured text, or Python.
- Familiarity with control systems, sensors, actuators, and communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
- Experience with project management tools and methodologies is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Knowledge of safety standards (e.g., OSHA) and automation industry best practices.

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position with occasional travel required for onsite installation and troubleshooting. Flexible hours may be offered based on project timelines and deadlines.
