Job Purpose
As a key member of our events team, the AV Assistant Manager (Audio Focus) will be responsible for leading the technical execution of audiovisual aspects of events, ensuring seamless delivery of high-quality productions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in audio engineering and a solid understanding of other basic A/V disciplines, including projection, lighting, and video.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the technical execution of audiovisual aspects of events, including setup, testing, and troubleshooting of audio equipment
- Provide technical direction and guidance to the A/V team in the absence/at the request of the A/V manager to ensure seamless delivery of high-quality audiovisual presentations. This includes collaborating with the A/V team to plan and execute event technical requirements, managing timelines, and ensuring all technical elements are in place and functioning properly.
- Collaborate with event planners, producers, and other technical teams to ensure successful events
- Provide expert technical support for events, including audio mixing, sound reinforcement, and equipment maintenance
- Manage and maintain audio equipment inventory, including consoles, mixers, and other technical systems
- Collaborate with the AV Manager to develop and implement training plans for new audiovisual equipment or systems, ensuring that staff are properly trained on their use and maintenance
- Participate in conducting training sessions with other team members, under the supervision of the AV Manager, to ensure that all staff are knowledgeable about audiovisual equipment and systems
- Research and recommend new audio technologies and equipment to enhance event production capabilities
- Troubleshoot technical issues during events and develop solutions to ensure minimal downtime
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of equipment and services
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and repairs
What You Need for this Position
- 3+ years of experience in live event A/V production, with a minimum of 2+ years as an audio engineer OR Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering or a closely related field
- Strong expertise in audio engineering, with proficiency in audio console operation, sound reinforcement systems, and microphone selection
- Familiarity with basic A/V disciplines (projection, lighting, video) to support overall event production needs
- Excellent troubleshooting skills in live settings with the ability to think critically and develop creative solutions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with event planners, producers, and other stakeholders
- Able to stand for long periods of time, up to 10 hours or more
- Able to stoop and bend
- Clean driving record
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds from time to time
- Able to safely work with potentially dangerous chemicals and equipment
- Able to comply with safety and health code standards
- Able to handle responsibilities that require repetitive motion tasks
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of YAMAHA workflow, ALLAN & HEATH Workflow, and SHURE microphone systems
- Experience with integrated A/V systems and A/V control systems (e.g., Crestron, Q-SYS, AMX, etc.)
- Familiarity with virtual event production technologies (e.g., webinars, streaming)
- Certification in audio engineering (e.g., Certified Audio Engineer - CAE) or other relevant certifications
