Job Summary and Qualifications
At HCA, Nursing is considered a key market differentiator. This position is responsible for developing and delivering on the enterprise wide Nursing & Clinical Informatics Program. This leader will seek to support the HCA Nursing Strategy through strategic applications, technology and informatics. This leader will integrate solutions and projects for the enterprise to create a seamless workflow for nurses and the entire care team. Under the strategic leadership of the VP Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO), the AVP assists with developing key roadmaps, strategies and timelines. He/she works closely and collaboratively with the entire CSG team, clinical leaders, business leaders, team members, ITG, DT&I and Senior leadership. This includes other stakeholders to initiate, explore, investigate, develop and test/deploy solutions.
The AVP, Nursing Informatics provides leadership: developing and driving agendas, coaching and mentoring staff, convening and leading complex teams and holding team members responsible for execution, delivery and measurement of impact of deployed technologies. The AVP is also accountable for; maintaining up-to-date knowledge of trends and advances in the field of Nursing and Healthcare Informatics, as well as new developments in hardware and software technology; maintaining up-to-date knowledge of nursing practices, regulatory standards, and organizational direction.
This role will require 25-50% travel.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
•Utilize HCA proven strategies of understanding variability, identify best performers, disseminate findings and consistently improve the clinician and patient experience
•Together with the CNE and CNIO drives the clinical and nursing vision for HCA's next generation technology and effectively communicates how current and future initiatives/projects advance that vision
•Mobilizes and directs resources (internal/external) to ensure the success of both current technology projects as well as ongoing optimization and innovation
•Cultivates an environment for ongoing practice improvement/organization learning leveraging informatics
•Responsible for developing increasingly optimized nurse and clinician experience in the area of clinical informatics.
• Collaborates actively works with Clinical/Nursing Informatics leadership at the corporate, division, and facility level to deploy vision, strategy, planning, and implementation
•Acts as a change agent for hospital leaders and clinicians to ensure maximum benefit of deployed technologies
• Considers and ensures compliance with federal and state regulations; conveys information regarding the system and its impact on existing standards and processes
•Leads, in collaboration with the project team, ITG, vendors and other stakeholders, the development of a highly functioning team to develop and optimize the nursing, care team, and patient experience
•Drives design of analytic approach to post-implementation evaluation for key initiatives
•Developed scalable and repeatable implementation processes to meet enterprise needs e.g. toolkits, training and education that may be led at corporate or the facilities (post pilot project)
•Recruits, interviews, and develops staff for the Nursing Informatics Team
•Defines and manages to development and deployment plans, deadlines, and budgets
•Ensures that delivered products are developed consistent with HCA and industry standards
•Collaborates with the CNIO, Clinical Informatics leaders and CFO to develop and deliver value driven business cases
•Actively participates in the quality improvement process and assist in the education of staff in the quality improvement process
•Adheres to established system-wide and departmental policies, procedures, and objects. Develop policies and procedures as appropriate.
•Responsible for escalation and resolution of issues identified that may impact the expected outcomes, plan, or clinical workflow processes
•Ensures the integration and use of evidence-based methods, tools, and guidelines linked to effective outcomes
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
•Mature understanding of Clinical Informatics and successful large clinical transformations and technology projects
•Demonstrated understanding of principles of Nursing Informatics
•Strong knowledge and demonstrated success utilizing principles of change management to ensure lasting organizational change
•Demonstrated ability to establish and build strong relationships across a broad range of personality types
•Strong communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills
•Leadership skills to manage others and maintain a common vision for project objectives. Must be a motivator.

•Existing knowledge of a facility’s clinical/operational processes

Qualifications
•Ability to define and execute strategies and solutions to loosely-defined business problems/opportunities
•Ability to communicate recommendations and solution effectively in written and spoken word to all levels of an organization
•Expert experience and knowledge about working with EHR and clinical informatics solutions within a healthcare system
•Progressive experience and solid understanding of the healthcare industry with a focus on enhancing clinician workflow via technology solutions
•Experience in business needs assessments, prioritization techniques, and business case development
•Strong communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills
•Experience with clinical downtime
Education and Experience
•Registered Nurse required BSN
•Clinical experience of 5 years preferred
•Master’s degree required
•Minimum of 7 years Clinical/Nursing Informatics required with experience in using healthcare technology
