Job Description:Assistant Vice President, Occupational Risk
Information about the Role, Line of Business and Team:
The Occupational Risk Profit Center is part of the Specialty Business Unit (SBU) within A&H and writes the following lines of business: Occupational Accident, Contingent Liability and Employers Liability, Non-Trucking Liability, and Physical Damage for Independent Contractors with ancillary Workers’ Compensation for employees. The target markets are the trucking industry and the Sharing Economy.
The Assistant Vice President will manage and mentor the Occupational Risk underwriters and have operational oversight on the products, production, and profitability of the business. This role will be responsible for identifying market trends and conditions while positioning the department for continual success.
What you will do:
- Assist with the development and execution of strategic plan and vision of the Occupational Risk Team in conjunction with the A&H Division.
- Meet profitability, retention, and written premium goals as determined by the Senior Vice President.
- Relationship building and management.
- Participate in development of new products and assist in refining current products and pricing.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on purpose, progress, and resource requirements needed to achieve business objectives.
- Maintain awareness of market trends and identifies emerging opportunities to the department.
- Can clearly articulate Occupational Risk’s value proposition and underwriting appetite.
- Provide the leadership necessary to maintain a motivated, productive and competent team through open communication and delegation of responsibilities and authority.
- Be a team leader and builder who has an eye for talent with the ability to maximize resources and capability to deliver business results.
- Demonstrate strong mentoring, relationship building, planning and organizational skills.
- Guide and direct team members in their personal and professional development.
- Drive performance excellence through goal-setting, quality feedback, and performance appraisals within the team (midyear and annual).
- Create a working environment where productivity can be sustained and accomplished, and where innovation and personal growth is encouraged and realized.

What YOU will bring to C&F:
- Strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business and manage a significant renewal book.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong underwriting acumen and attention to detail.
- In-depth knowledge of department products and services
- Established and maintain broker relationships within the Occupational Risk marketplace.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of underwriting experience required
- Strong product knowledge, exposure analysis skills, forms and coverage knowledge, and rating principals and mechanics
- Minimum 5+ years of people management experience
- Advance knowledge in Microsoft Office tools – Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Travel required monthly
- Product knowledge and experience in:
- Occupational Accident
- Workers’ Compensation
- Auto Physical Damage
- Non-Trucking Liability

Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $128,300 to a maximum of $188,200. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
