Zurich North America’s Apprentice Program

Zurich is accepting resumes for our 2025 Complete-a-Bachelor’s Degree Apprentice Program! The program is scheduled to start in Spring 2025, but please apply now for early consideration.   
 

Our innovative Underwriting Apprentice Program allows participants to simultaneously gain the education and the experience to launch a rewarding career in commercial insurance.

Qualifed candidates must live in Houston Area but be able to commute to Zurich's Houston office 2-3 times a week.

The two-year program combines targeted virtual coursework with the University of Arizona Global Campus with relevant work rotations at Zurich’s local Houston office. 

Apprentices who successfully complete this two-year program will:

• Work in a paid, benefit-eligible full-time position at Zurich
• Earn a tuition-free Bachelor’s degree in:
  • Business Administration with a concentration in Insurance
• Receive a Department of Labor Certificate of Apprenticeship
• Possess credentials and skills for today’s ever-changing marketplace 
• Promoted into an Underwriter role upon graduation
   

As a part of our Middle Market Underwriting team, responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Reviews risk exposures, controls, loss history, and financial condition to aid underwriting process.
• Follows instructions from Underwriters in area of policy formation to accurately quote and issue policies.
• Provides account servicing support in collaboration with Underwriter and Manager, with responsibility for end-to-end servicing processes for new business, renewals, and endorsements.
• Supports Underwriter with customer interactions by providing basic customer service.
   

Basic Qualifications:

• Associate Degree in Business or rising Junior with two years of coursework in Business and no prior years of experience in the Insurance area. Contingent on admittance into University of Arizona Global Campus Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration program.
   

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Interest in the insurance industry
• 2 or more years of work experience and/or leadership role in student activities or community service activities
• Intermediate computer skills, especially Excel
• Self-motivated and able to work independently
• Ability to multitask and adapt to a changing environment
• Problem solving skills

The salary range for this role is $55,000-$57,000. Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience.  As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable range of compensation for roles.  For additional information about our Total Rewards, click here.
