Job Summary
The Behavior Specialist works within a treatment team providing behavioral support to youth and families experiencing behavioral challenges. Behavior Specialists can provide support to youth and families in school, at home, and/or in community environments. Behavior Specialist works in programs in the Y's Behavioral Health Services division and suggests and implements behavioral intervention strategies for the client and family. Behavior Specialist often transport clients and monitor family visitations.
This position is with the Y Social Impact Center, the social services division of the YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS), serving around 5,000 youth, young adults, and families every year in communities across King County, Pierce County, and various counties across WA. Through our programs we aim to strengthen young people's ability to develop to their fullest potential through four strategies: reducing risk factors; navigating systems towards successful life transition; establishing stability, safety and wellness in times of crisis; and building competencies and social capital. The Social Impact Center's programs include homelessness prevention, housing, behavioral health, crisis response, foster care licensing, violence prevention, and employment. Since many of the young people we serve have been involved in the foster care, criminal justice, behavioral health, and/or homelessness systems, we truly value relatable lived experience of our staff and those applying for our positions as an asset.
Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with a 40 hour work week with ability to flex hours as needed to suit the needs of families. For example, an early morning might allow an early shut down and vice versa.

Hiring Range: $24.00 - $27.00/hour
Responsibilities
Role Responsibilites:
+ Creates individualized behavioral plan for each client on caseload.
+ Works collaboratively with treatment team to achieve treatment goals within a shared action plan.
+ Develops and facilitates life skill and coping skill curriculum for youth in the child welfare system.
+ Provides behavior management and intervention strategies for youth in home, school, and community settings.
+ May help coach staff YGS branch staff on behavior management techniques and youth engagement in programs.
+ Works therapeutically with clients and their parents on prescribed treatment goals.
+ Facilitates service-learning opportunities with youth in the child welfare system.
+ Provides direct client support in emergent and crisis situations for youth on their caseload. Supervises clients in parent/sibling visitation environment. Makes decisions to intervene in or terminate visits if necessary.
+ Supervises clients in social and recreational experiences, providing short-term day-of respite to foster parents.
+ Ensures clients are transported on-time and safely to/from all scheduled parent/sibling visitations, appointments, and other activities.
+ Reports all critical incidents in accordance with YMCA Incident Reporting Policy & Procedures.
+ Meets monthly and as assigned for clinical supervision and training.
+ Complete required training to support knowledge and Behavior Support skills needed for the job.
+ Adheres to YMCA program rules and procedures.
Time Commitments:

+ Weekly 1.5 hour team meeting to review cases and enhance team collaboration.
+ Weekly 1 hour supervision to review cases, performance, develop skills and understanding that supports improved performance as a Behavior support.
+ Twice per month 1.5 hours CCORS staff meeting. These meetings are time to connect with the other crisis teams, learn about outside providers/services, review expectations or administrative updates that impact everyone, and allow for collaborative discussion.
+ Meetings with other providers as needed i.e. schools, wraparound teams, etc.
+ 1-hour monthly meeting with DDA Manager.
+ 1 hour monthly meeting with DDA consultant.
+ Required training that provides continued education through YMCA training as well as trainings specific to the program and/or your Behavior Support role, crisis work, and DD demographic served. Training occurs throughout the year and staff are provided adequate heads-up to schedule accordingly.
Commitment to Families:
+ Behavior Support may carry a case of 7-10 clients.
+ Cases last 3-6 months generally.
+ Expectation that you are meeting with your clients with frequency, urgency and intensity based on their needs. Behavior Support expected to meet at least 1x/wk in person and regular communication with the family, team, and any other providers to ensure continuity and consistency of care.
+ Participating in meetings with other providers such as schools, DDA, hospitals, therapists, psychiatrists, etc.
+ Maintaining accurate notes written within 1-5 days of a service occurrence.
+ Write a Functional Behavior Analysis at the beginning of each case and update it throughout as needed, providing a final copy to the family and other providers when the case closes.
+ Support the family and team in completing safety and action plans.

+ Consistent communication, replying within 24 hours via email, text, phone call, and Teams chat.
+ Maintaining a current calendar that identifies your meetings and availability to aid in communication, scheduling, and transparency with your team and supervisor.
+ Collaboration and solutions focused when discussing cases with the team.
+ Growth mindset while discussing cases with both your team and your supervisor.
+ Maintaining accurate documentation to ensure the most current information is available to your team and our after-hours team who support our families during evening and weekend hours.
Travel
This role requires you to have reliable transportation and travel throughout King County to meet with families in their homes and communities.

Qualifications
+ Must be at least 21 years of age OR may be between 18 and 21 years of age if enrolled in a social service internship or practicum program with an accredited college or university and can provide sufficient documentation.
+ High school diploma or high school equivalency course of study (GED/HSEC) with 2 years of directly relevant experience working with children, youth, and families required.
+ Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor Certification***
+ Have the skills and ability to work successfully and meet the special needs of children in child welfare care.
+ Must have own transportation and be able and willing to travel around King County to meet client and family needs.
+ Intermediate proficiency with computers, basic Microsoft Office software and case management/client tracking software.
+ Experience tracking and summarizing data into reports.
+ Strong organizational and communication skills with attention to details, timelines and follow-through. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical activity, sexual orientation, etc.).
+ Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful. Current state approved first aid, CPR and HIV/AIDS training certification.*

Authorized Driver Requirement
This safety-sensitive role requires transporting clients as "authorized drivers" for the Y using your vehicle. To meet this requirement, you must be age 21+, have a valid driver's license for at least three years and possessing a driving record that meets Y standards (no more than two moving violations within the last three years, no significant incidents such as reckless driving, DUI/DWI, no tickets 20+ miles above the speed limit etc. within 5 years) and proof of current auto insurance; minimum recommended coverage limits are $300,000 per incident, and current vehicle registration is required. You must also pass a drug screen that will test for impairing substances, including marijuana.
