The Behavioral Health Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing the nursing care provided to clients at the behavioral health facility. This role includes coordination with the Medical Director, supervising the behavioral health staff, ensuring medication management, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to support each client's unique behavioral health needs. This manager will ensure the highest standards of patient care, compliance with health regulations, and provide a supportive work environment for staff.
NURSE MANAGER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Client Admissions and Assessments
- Oversee pre-admission process, ensuring collection of client demographics, ensure insurance eligible coverage and information is collected, obtain medical histories, and medication lists. Create client profile in client charting system.
- Communicate and coordinate client admission with staff, pharmacy, Medical Director, and MRHS billing and lab.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director to confirm clients' readiness for admission, coordinate admission dates, and set up necessary evaluations and charting.
- Conduct nursing evaluations (3.7 clients), PCC order entries and task assignments, verifying orders.
- Ensures all client intake documentation is completed accurately and timely.
Client Care Management
- Responsible for coordinating and overseeing client care, delivery and coordination with the Medical Director, Licensed Addiction Counselors (LACs), Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs), lab technicians, and pharmacy staff.
- Ensure timely completion and documentation of medical orders and client interactions within client charting system.
- Provides nursing support and care to clients as needed. Responsible for assessment and follow-up of nursing care needs and reportable incidents.
Medication Management and Compliance
- Supervise medication administration by BHTs, conduct regular audits of medication carts and storage areas, and ensure safe disposal of expired or discontinued medications.
- Communicate medication orders, updates, and changes to the pharmacy and BHTs.
- Coordinate with pharmacy and lab for necessary supplies and support, ensuring all orders are verified and compliant.
- Assist in medication administration to clients as necessary when short-staffed or other needs arise.
Staff Supervision and Development
- Lead and supervise BHTs, including development planning, education, scheduling shift coverage and ensuring adherence to facility standards and state regulations.
- Provide ongoing training, including med aide certification and UDA certification for BHTs, and maintain a supportive team environment that promotes high standards of client care. Coordinate CPR training.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in accordance with facility policies and state regulations.
- Provides appropriate guidance for employees by planning work schedules, assigning work duties while on shift, and directing the work daily.
- Willingness to take on new duties and embrace organizational changes as needed.
- Must dress professionally and maintain a high standard of personal hygiene in accordance with healthcare regulations.
- Conducts oneself professionally, maintaining the confidentiality of all client, staff, and facility-related matters.
- Acts as the primary contact for all matters related to client admissions and care services.
- Provides guidance to clinical staff, maintenance teams, and administrative staff as needed.
- Ensures the safety and well-being of clients and staff, including maintaining facility property in compliance with health and safety codes.
- Investigates client or staff concerns and takes appropriate action to resolve issues.
Quality and Compliance
- Perform regular quality audits to ensure all client care practices meet regulatory and safety standards.
- Review and address any medication errors, collaborating with the Medical Director and pharmacy to prevent reoccurrence.
- On-call for all nursing, medication, and acute client concerns as required by facility protocols and state regulations.
- Ensures that any incident reports are completed properly and promptly.
- Prepare and assist with survey readiness. Assist with ongoing compliance review process for the review of case records to assure the quality and appropriateness of services.
- Facilitates staff meetings, promoting team engagement, respectful participation, and a solution-oriented approach.
- Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations governing substance abuse treatment and mental health services.
- Oversees emergency preparedness planning and hazardous waste disposal procedures.
NURSE MANAGER PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a high school diploma.
- Associate or bachelor's degree in nursing required.
- Active RN license in the state of South Dakota without restrictions.
- Experience as an RN in a healthcare facility or behavioral health setting.
- Strong clinical skills in behavioral health nursing, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems, and a commitment to quality and regulatory compliance.
- Self-motivated, organized, and efficient in managing client and facility needs.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to substance abuse treatment and healthcare, with the ability to operationalize these regulations.
- High standards of personal conduct and confidentiality practices.
- Strong customer service and conflict-resolution skills.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Employee must submit to a TB test in accordance with state regulations.
- Employee must submit to a urine drug screen for employment.
- Employee must pass a background check for employment.
