The NP scope of practice incorporates the skills and knowledge from the disciplines of nursing and
medicine. Working in collaboration with a physician or a group of physicians, the NP provides timely care
management for specific patient populations, including admission, ongoing assessment, symptom
management, ordering/performing specified diagnostic tests and procedures. Also, orders/performs special
treatment (medication therapies, clinical treatments, consultation, etc. under the direction of a specific
physician or group of physicians within scope of practice following appropriate legislation. The NP provides
comprehensive patient care using advanced assessment skills and a sound knowledge of clinical
therapeutics and provides indirect patient care services to support patient care, promote professional
education, and advanced knowledge through research and scholarly activities.
