Our organization, a non-profit dedicated to supporting over 40,000 individuals in Hartford & Middlesex County, is seeking a Benefits Administrator to join our HR team. We provide programs covering basic needs, children, health & wellness, housing shelters, jobs & training, seniors, and veterans. The Benefits Administrator will support all benefit-based questions and administration for our employees. Our team consists of a receptionist, HR generalist, HR director, and an administrator. With around 700 employees, we are looking for someone with strong experience in CT Paid Leave, Open Enrollment, FMLA requests, and administering workers' compensation insurance programs.
Responsibilities
+ Participate in the formulation of annual health and welfare benefits strategy, planning, coordination, and implementation.
+ Lead project coordination for annual plan open enrollment, implementation, and other deliverables.
+ Administer all benefits programs such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, STD, LTD, and any other benefit offerings.
+ Process associate enrollments and changes for all benefit programs.
+ Handle COBRA administration and coordination for employees losing benefit coverage.
+ Monitor ACA monthly compliance.
+ Administer group life, dependent life, group AD&D, and Workers' Compensation insurance programs.
+ Process benefit claims in coordination with insurance carriers.
+ Administer FMLA and ADA requests, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
+ Plan and administer wellness and safety events.
+ Track workplace injuries and maintain OSHA log for recordable injuries.
+ Prepare and submit required annual compliance documents (5500’s, retirement plan audits).
+ Manage online eligibility for medical, dental, and vision plans.
+ Serve as liaison between providers and employees for benefit inquiries.
+ Respond to notifications from state and regulatory agencies.
+ Maintain confidentiality of employee records and sensitive documents.
+ Develop and maintain benefits documentation and files.
+ Coordinate Employee Recognition and the annual Service Awards Program.
+ Perform regular audits of files and records to ensure accuracy.
+ Attend Human Resource Board of Directors Meetings and prepare minutes.
+ Maintain a clean, secure, and well-maintained work area.
+ Provide backup coverage for the front desk.
Essential Skills
+ Experience working with and administering CT Paid Leave.
+ Experience with 401k Testing and 5500.
+ Strong customer service skills.
+ Experience with ADP, or similar systems like Paylocity or Paycom.
+ Minimum of 2+ years of working with benefits, preferably as an HR generalist.
+ Experience in leading annual plan open enrollment for a large employee base.
+ Proficiency in Excel and data entry.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field.
+ Minimum of three years of progressively responsible human resources administration experience.
+ Experience with HRIS systems and Microsoft applications.
+ Strong organizational and time management skills.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Knowledge of Federal, state, and local laws pertaining to personnel administration and various compensation and benefit plans and practices.
+ Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Work Environment
This position is based in our Hartford, CT office, with hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, totaling a 35-hour work week. The administrative employees work on the second and third floors in an office setting. Dress code is business casual.
