Role: The Benefits Coordinator processes benefits administration for the Nation by assisting employees with employer-sponsored plan enrollment, insurance billing, and maintains employee database and files. This position also processes and monitors medical Leave requests and the worker's compensation programs for the Nation.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all minimum requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Minimum Requirements:
Driving: Must have a valid Kansas driver's license and be insurable with the Nation's insurance.
Experience:
MINIMUM: 2-4 years of direct HR or benefits administration experience.
PREFERRED: 5+ years of direct experience with benefits administration.
Education:
MINIMUM: Associate degree or above in a business-related field. Education may be substituted with 4+ years of direct HR or benefits administration experience. Willing to obtain the Tribal HR Professional (THRP) certification within one year of hire.
PREFERRED: Bachelor's degree in business or related field. Currently THRP or THRPII certified.
Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
Knowledge:
- Personnel and Human Resources: Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems.
- Administrative: Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as recruitment software, Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), benefit portals, and Microsoft Office programs.
- English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Law and Government: Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
- Education and Training: Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
- Customer and Personal Service: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Skills:
- Speaking & Active Listening: Must have abilities to convey information effectively in person, over the phone and in email by giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
