As a Billing and Collections Specialist, you will play a vital role in contributing to the financial health of our organization. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all services provided are verified against charges and billed accurately and on time. By diligently managing billing processes, you will help generate revenue, enabling us to continue providing essential care to our patients. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Daily Tasks:
- Verify services provided match with appropriate billing codes the represent the highest quality services
- Submit claims to insurance companies within 24 hours of service
- Review claims for errors and resubmit denied or rejected claims
- Determine correct payment amounts for patient responsibility and create clear and concise invoices
- Educate patients and families on insurance coverage, payment options, and collect their payment.
- Collaborate with Client Services staff to obtain missing patient or payer information
- Ensure completion of all clinical documentation for third party invoicing and enter eligible services into their billing system
- Maintain accuracy and confidentiality of financial information
- Stay up-to-date with relevant regulations and legislation governing billing and collections
- Collaborate with team members to identify and resolve billing-related issues
- Meet deadlines for projects and tasks assigned by the Finance Manager
- Provide timely and accurate reports on billing and collections statistics
Qualifications and Skills:
- Accounting knowledge and familiarity with corporate finance
- Strong attention to detail and deadline-oriented mindset
- Excellent reporting and research skills
- Understanding of billing rules and regulations, including SFAS rules
- Confidentiality and ability to manage sensitive financial information
- Effective time management and data entry skills
- Proficient in general math and basic computer applications (e.g., email, Word, Excel)
- Ability to adapt to and learn new software systems
- Positive outlook on life and the ability to adapt quickly to changes
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Up-to-date immunizations, including documentation of TB skin test
- Clean background check and valid driver's license
Additional Preferred Skills:
- Experience with accounting systems
- Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding guidelines
- Familiarity with Medicaid and private insurance plans in Kentucky and Indiana
- Proficiency in using statistics and insights
- Strong verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with others and maintain positive interpersonal relationships
- Flexibility and a desire to learn and advance skill set
