Axle is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Biologist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Cancer Institute (NCI) located in Bethesda, MD.
Overall Position Summary and Objectives This position will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the NCI/CCR.
Deliverables:
- Work products and documents related to handling, assigning and storing of cell and non-cell products and analysis such as FACS and molecular characterization; serve as the point person for dissemination of information as directed; organize records forms and labels necessary for data integrity. - Daily
- Maintain documents related to performing trouble shooting during cell/non-cell handling; document actions required to resolve problem and initiate corrective action; perform required quality control steps as outlined in SOPs; perform data retrieval and entry using multiple IT systems. - Daily
- Maintain documents related to interpreting experimental techniques and procedures, reports on laboratory results, written evaluation of procedures including detected deficiencies/defects, and reports on cell and non-cell human products and research as well as storage. - Daily
- Work products and documents related to maintaining up-to-date knowledge of processing requirements; attend faculty staff meetings or review minutes of the meeting if unable to attend. - Ad-Hoc
- Clean Equipment - Daily
- Run Validation - Ad-Hoc
- Inspect Equipment - Ad-Hoc
- Meet with lab members to present updates - Ad-Hoc
Work Details:
- Perform FACS and molecular analysis on human cells and do cell sorts; design FACSpanels; prepare cells and interpret results; organize purchase of FACS reagents andmaintain inventory 3
- Perform cell separation by lineage and by lineage subsets; process non-cellular humanproducts with analysis, storage and record keeping 1
- Serve as the point person for dissemination of information pertaining to the assignedproduct or duty to coworkers, physicians, patient care team and other health careprofessionals as directed
- Organize cell population, serum, urine, saliva, tissues, and other human products andassociated records forms and labels necessary for data integrity 2
- Perform trouble shooting during cell and human material handling and assayperformance; document actions required to resolve problem and initiate corrective action as needed 4
- Perform required QC steps as outlined in SOPs 5
- Perform data retrieval and entry using multiple IT systems
- Interpret experimental techniques and procedures; prepare reports on laboratory results
- Prepare written evaluation of results including detected deficienciesdefects, and reportson research protocols or human product processing, analysis, and storage
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SOP manuals to stay current with proceduralguidelines
- Attend facility staff meetingsreview lab practices or review minutes of the meeting ifunable to attend
- Ensure compliance with universal precautions
- Experience working with Flow Cytometry
- Experience working with human cells

Minimum Education
Bachelor’s
Additional Qualifications:
Certifications & Licenses
- Master's Degree in Biology, Life Sciences or related
- B.S. in related fields plus 3 years experience equivlivent to Masters

Skills
- Training in universal precautions.
- Knowledge of proper laboratory techniques, disposal methods and safety procedures
- Proficiency in the use of computers and computer programs
- Ability to work independently on cell processing assignments.
- Knowledge of cell processing, cultures and assays, and an ability to analyze and evaluate laboratory findings and learn new techniques.
- Knowledge working in a cell handling, culture, and assay environment to include FACS and molecular characterization
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
