About the Job
Company: Jillion Therapeutics Inc. / Location: SUNY downstate Biotechnology Incubator, Brooklyn, NY
About Us: Jillion Therapeutics is a new biotechnology company pioneering advancements in CNS drug discovery, building on two decades of Nobel-lab neuroscience research, and NIH-funded. We are committed to harnessing cutting edge technologies, from drug discovery to validation, to rapidly deliver innovative solutions that address critical therapeutic needs.
Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated Biologist (Master Level) with 1-3 years of experience and a genuine interest in drug development. A strong background in molecular biology/biochemistry and/or cellular biology is required. The ideal candidate will have experience in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies; experience with assay development and/or drug-testing is a plus. Main goals will include identification of our own drug-like compounds, biochemical and cellular validation. Possibility to grow with our multi-disciplinary team.
Position highlights:
• Experimentation: conduct Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Cellular Biology experiments to support internal research projects (e.g. protein immobilization and characterization, cell signaling, mammalian cell culture related work, protein analysis, compound testing for target binding and activity, DNA analysis).
• Next generation sequencing: Assist a Senior Scientist performing DEL screening and ensure quality control/experimental reporting. This includes PCR amplification, amplicon preparation, library construction and quantification. Assess NGS DNA quality and optimize conditions as needed.
• Organizational skills: Prepare detailed experimental protocols and progress reports. Annotate and organize samples to be analyzed, optimized and archived. Attention to details is required.
• Collaboration: Work effectively in a collaborative environment to achieve project goals and scientific advancements. Collaborate to integrate data into broader research framework. Ability to present results to a multi-disciplinary team.
Requirements
Education: Master level in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cellular Biology, or a related field.
Experience: 1-3 years of relevant lab or industry experience.
Technical Skills:
- Standard molecular biology techniques. Some exposition to Illumina NGS technologies, including amplicon preparation, library construction, and quality control is preferable. Experience with Bioanalyzer and/or TapeStation for DNA analysis is a plus.
- Standard biochemical techniques including protein production, immobilization and detection. Understanding of assay development and protein/compound binding validation is a plus.
- Cell biology: mammalian cell culture, transfection, cell toxicity assays, and cell signaling.
- Proficient with necessary software and coding is a plus.
Organizational skills: Ability to organize complex sample sets (e.g. NGS, DEL), summarize progress visually, and provide critical actionable conclusions.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present findings and collaborate effectively with team members. Desire to learn complementary skill sets and interact with the team are favovered.
Project advancement: Demonstrated ability to manage own time and meet deadlines.
