Responsible for teaching courses in the biology, life science (agriculture) arena. Focuses on teaching the study of living things, including cells and their structures and functions, anatomy, and biology in the environment, including biological processes that are complimentary of our comprehensive AgSTEM program. This optimal candidate will also help to develop scholars analytical, interpersonal, and professional skills grounded in a comprehensive understanding of agriculture.We are searching for a reliable and passionate biology/life science teacher to join our AgSTEM faculty. This teacher’s responsibilities include : preparing lesson plans, tests and assignments, supervising scholars during investigations and experiments. This candidate should be able to teach scholars from different backgrounds, with varying aptitudes and interests.
An ARLCS teacher, you should be culturally responsive, well-organized, and demonstrate insatiable curiosity that will be transferred to our scholar population.
Biology Teacher Responsibilities
- Curriculum development: Create lesson plans based on the curriculum framework, and develop engaging curricula that include lab experiments and other scientific investigations
- Teaching: Lecture to large groups of scholars, and provide scholars with a hands-on learning experience in the laboratory and in field studies programs
- Scholar evaluation: Regularly evaluate scholar performance and keep evaluation records up to date
- Communication: Communicate well with scholars, staff, and their parents or guardians, and lead scholar conferences each semester
- Classroom management: Set and enforce guidelines for classroom behavior
- Administrative duties: Maintain grade books, proctor exams, and assign projects as necessary
- Professional development: Work with colleagues to participate in the development of the department
- Scientific integrity: Uphold the standards of scientific integrity and encourage scholars to become successful in science
- Rational thinking: Promote rational thinking and knowledge in scholars
- Monitoring scholar performance, and adjusting teaching strategies and techniques for improved content delivery.
- Establishing classroom, laboratory, and field trip rules and ensuring all scholars understand and accept them.
- Setting up exams, assessments, and experiments in accordance with curriculum requirements and standards of the state and district.
- Communicating any scholar issues to parents, counselors, and other relevant staff members.
- Attending school events, club meetings, and staff meetings as required.
- Representing the school at conferences, workshops, and other networking events.
- Building rapport with scholars so that they feel comfortable and safe discussing sensitive topics in class.
- Encouraging scholars to participate in science fairs, competitions, and expos, and preparing them for these events.
Biology Teacher Requirements:
- Degree in biology or science.
- Master’s degree preferable.
- Degree in secondary education with a focus in biology also acceptable.
- Relevant teaching license or certification recommended.
- Previous teaching experience would be advantageous.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Patience, resilience, and cultural sensitivity.
