Job Summary:
A Biomedical Equipment Technician performs safety testing, preventive maintenance, repairs and pre-acceptances on biomedical equipment and systems in a manner that is efficient and responsive to the customer's needs. The purpose of this position is to provide our customers with cost-effective biomedical equipment maintenance, efficient technical support, accurate clinical support, and assist in educational needs, in order to promote and ensure the safe and effective use of biomedical equipment, or equipment used in the clinical environment. This includes, but is not limited to electronic patient and non-patient equipment used in the patient care area, electronic equipment designed for diagnostic, therapeutic, and laboratory applications. Monitor and continuously seek improvement in the Environment of Care, particularly in terms of patient, staff and facility safety. Develop and maintain biomedical equipment inventory and history records, coordinate equipment service inspections, and implement plans to reduce equipment failure and increase reliability, while minimizing the risk to patients and staff.
Job Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma/GED Post High School Vocational / Military / Specialized Training as a Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) - AA degree; Bachelor's degree in Clinical /Biomedical (BME) or AAMI Certification preferred.
Experience: 5+ years-previous experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician or military trained Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician.
Knowledge/Skills: Maintain a current driver's license and meet all hospital insurance policy carriers- requirements. Personal computer skills. Word processing software (MS Word). Spreadsheet/database software (Excel). Strong English reading, verbal, written communication skills. Ability to interact successfully with management, physicians, Board members and staff. Ability to work independently, problem solve and handle multiple priorities. Ability to use service manuals and schematics to maintain, calibrate and repair a wide variety of biomedical equipment. Provide technical support on equipment operation and maintenance for the purpose of supporting the clinical staff.
