HJF is seeking a Biostatistician IV to support the Data Coordinating and Analysis Center (DCAC) for the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) and the Emerging Infectious Diseases Branch (EIDB) of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), whose Home Office is located at 6720A Rockledge Drive, Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to MHRP, EIDB, and affiliated programs. This position is hybrid requiring a minimum of 10-12 days per month in the office.
DCAC is an in-house centralized resource for clinical data management, biostatistical analysis, reporting, and training in support of clinical trials and scientific research. The Biostatistician IV will provide statistical support for new and ongoing observational research, laboratory research, and clinical trials related to HIV and emerging infectious diseases studies conducted by MHRP, EIDB, and affiliated programs, involving clinical observational research, laboratory research, clinical trials, and other research studies.

Responsibilities:- Responsible for the overall design, analysis, and reporting of research studies, including clinical trials and observational cohorts to advance scientific knowledge in HIV and other emerging infectious diseases.
- Collaborates with and may provide consultation to investigators and other research partners to formalize statistical analysis plans and publication goals and provides biostatistical expertise on design, analytic strategies, interpretation, and presentation of statistical results for clinical and observational research.
- Prepares study documentation, such as study protocols, reports, scientific abstracts, peer reviewed manuscripts, and responses to regulatory agencies, institutional review boards, and other agencies as needed.
- Conducts statistical analyses of clinical trial and cohort data, including laboratory measures, using appropriate statistical software (SAS, STATA, and/or R), and performs power calculations to estimate sample size or minimum effect sizes. Provides summaries, interpretations, and presentation of statistical results in written, tabular, and visual formats as needed to support reporting goals.
- May provide training and mentorship for junior biostatisticians, analysts, and investigators for biostatistical methodology.
- Participates in recruitment, hiring, and staffing coordination, as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- May make recommendations regarding employee hiring and provide input on employee performance evaluations.
Education and Experience
- Master's Degree
- Minimum of 9-10 years experience required
or
- Doctoral Degree
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and ability to use and explain complex epidemiologic research methods for assessing the risk of disease in humans due to potential risk factors.
- Experience with causal inference methods. E
- Experience with clinical trials design and data analysis.
- Expertise in statistical programming including experience with advanced multivariate statistical methods.
- Knowledge of statistical and mathematical software including SAS, Stata and/or R.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to make effective presentations and publish.
- Ability to be detail-oriented while managing multiple tasks and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Work Environment
- This position will take place primarily in an office environment.
Compensation
- The annual salary range for this position is $100,500 - $125,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
