Overview
The Biosurveillance Scientist will support the Department of Homeland Security’s Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Office in identifying, analyzing, and reporting on biological events of interest to national security due to their effects on human, animal, plant, and/or environmental health. The role will incorporate open source biosurveillance reporting and technology innovation consulting in the biosurveillance space for the purpose of providing information decision makers and responders at the federal, state, and local levels can leverage for both early detection and situational awareness. Position located NCR, near McPherson Square.
Responsibilities
- Open source collection, analysis, and dissemination of reports concerning biological events of interest to national security
- Research, manage, and test new and existing technical approaches and tools across the CWMD mission portfolio
- Provide technical consulting and analytic support to manage external pilot projects aimed at improving operational reporting and analysis efficiencies
Requirements
- Applicants selected must have a completed NACLC investigation and corresponding DoD security clearance
- A Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s a plus) from an accredited college or university in natural or physical sciences, engineering, medical, veterinary, public health, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or related fields.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated ability to drive for results independently and adapt to rapidly changing priorities
- Ability to work on multiple projects which includes prioritizing, tracking, attention to detail, follow-up and follow-through to project completion
- Excellent communication, written, and organizational skills
- US Citizenship required
