Department Summary:Under the administrative purview of the UCLA Rolfe/Campbell Humanities Group, which also oversees the Spanish & Portuguese Department, the Linguistics Department focuses on the scientific study of language in all aspects and houses three laboratories in phonetics, language processing, and language acquisition. The Linguistics Department consists of faculty, postdoctoral scholars, visiting researchers, language consultants, graduate/undergraduate students, and administrative and academic staff, and offers robust programs toward graduate degrees, undergraduate degrees, and language learning in American Sign Language and Swahili.Position Summary:

1-3 years Experience in office administration or performing in an office environment, familiarity with office equipment and structure. (Required) Understanding of academic mission of department. Knowledge of educational standards, models, and practices. (Required)Demonstrated skill in using Microsoft Office products, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Demonstrated skill in accurate and efficient typing. (Required)Familiarity with the functions and routine operations/maintenance of standard office/AV equipment, such as computers/laptops, copiers, printers, shredders, and fax machines. (Required)Working knowledge of WordPress, flyer design programs, online calendaring systems, and Google Group listservs. (Preferred)Demonstrated skill in writing, reviewing, and editing logical, concise, and grammatically correct letters of business correspondence in an educational and professional setting in Standard English text, such as financial information, university policy, and procedure manuals. (Required)Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills to maintain accurate transactions, databases, manuals, etc. in office with frequent interruptions and/or distractions. (Required)Excellent customer services skills. Ability to use a variety of interpersonal communications skills to interact and communicate effectively, clearly, and cooperatively to diverse populations (faculty, administrators, students, staff, visitors, etc. of various social, cultural, and educational backgrounds) through different modalities, such as in person, Zoom, email, phone, and text. Working knowledge of UC financial, purchasing, and reimbursement systems, policies, and procedures, such as BruinBuy Plus, Travel Express, Concur, recharge system, foreign wire transfer requests, courtesy parking, Asset Management System, SAWeb. Ability to reconcile department procurement and travel & entertainment cards. (Preferred)Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive files and information.
