About the Job
The Board of Supervisors Department has a paid internship opportunity for a Youth Advisory Council Coordinator (YAC) for District 1. The intern will be responsible for mentoring high school aged youth, coordinating and overseeing all aspects of the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) program within their district.
Through this opportunity, the intern will develop experience in teamwork, leadership, communication, time management, goal setting, organization, critical thinking, dependability and punctuality, professionalism, boundaries, decision making, attention to detail and multitasking. In addition they will gain professional experience in documenting and record keeping, marketing, research, public speaking, budgeting, event planning and coordination, supervision, management and training, sponsorships/negotiations, website and social media management, networking, knowledge of parliamentary procedures/Brown Act, strategizing and planning, drafting legal agreements, purchasing and accounting procedures, creating publications, initiative and resourcefulness.
The in-person student internship position is based throughout Riverside County with a flexible work week consisting of approximately 20 hours per week. The selected candidate can anticipate the internship to span two years in length.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Under supervision, assists and participates in the work performed by employees of a specific profession; through participation, receives supervised work experience in a specific professional vocation; and performs other related duties as required.
The intern will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Supervising and facilitating YAC's community service events and meetings during weekdays and weekends (including evenings)
- Driving YAC members to and from YAC events and meetings within Riverside County
- Assisting with the coordination of all Youth Commission meetings, events and projects including three large annual events
- Assisting district staff with constituent issues, correspondence and field work as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average : 3.0GPA required. Proof of most current unofficial/official transcript with cumulative GPA must be provided at time of application .
Education: Applicants must be currently enrolled/attending school at an accredited college or university in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program or preparing to transfer to a Bachelor's program during the entire duration of the internship.
Areas of Study : Public or Business Administration, Human Resources, Organizational Studies or similar; Psychology, Sociology or other behavioral studies, and Arts or Humanities
Minimum Qualifications:
- Candidate must meet Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) eligibility
- Must live in one of the five supervisory districts in Riverside County
