About the Job
Cloninger Collision department technician is responsible for repairing vehicles that have been damaged in accidents, or have suffered other types of body damage.
Their roles and responsibilites include but are not limited to:
- Assessing damage: Inspect vehicles to determine the extent of damage and the required repairs. This may involve working with the collision department technician manager or estimator to prepare repair plans and estimate costs.
- Repairing body damage: Perform various repair tasks, such as removing dents, repairing scratches and gouges, straightening bent frames, and replacing damaged parts. This may require the use of specialized tools and equipment, such as body hammers, hydraulic jacks, or frame straightening machines.
- Welding and cutting: Perform welding and cutting tasks as needed to repair or replace damaged components, such as panels, structural members, or brackets.
- Aligning and fitting body components: Properly align and fit body components, such as doors, hoods, and trunk lids, to ensure proper fit and function. This may involve adjusting hinges, latches, or other hardware as necessary.
- Preparing surfaces for painting: Sand, grind, or otherwise prepare damaged surfaces for painting, ensuring that they are smooth and free of contaminants. This may also involve applying body filler, primer, and other materials as necessary.
- R&I (remove and install) components: Remove and reinstall various vehicle components, such as trim, lights, or glass, as needed to facilitate repairs or to prevent damage during the repair process.
- Quality control: Inspect completed repairs to ensure they meet the dealership's quality standards and industry best practices.
- Maintaining a clean and safe work environment: Keep the collision department technician clean, organized, and free of hazards, in accordance with dealership policies and safety regulations.
- Tool and equipment maintenance: Properly maintain and care for tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order and reporting any issues to the collision department technician manager.
- Continuous learning: Stay up-to-date on industry trends, new vehicle technologies, and repair techniques through ongoing training and professional development.
