Job Summary
We seek a motivated and detail-oriented Bookkeeper/Business Manager to join our team. This role is integral to our financial operations and will maintain accurate financial records, manage budgets, and support the organization's overall administrative functions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bookkeeping or accounting, demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving, and align with our mission of promoting diversity in technology.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records, including accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll processing.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and reports for the executive team and board of directors.
- Assist with budgeting and financial forecasting, providing insights on financial health and performance.
- Manage payroll, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations.
- Support the preparation for audits and manage all necessary documentation.
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
- Manage day-to-day administrative tasks to support organizational operations.
- Handle invoicing and grant billing, ensuring timely submission and compliance with funder requirements.
- Work with external accountants to finalize annual tax returns and reporting.
Skills and Competencies
- Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred; relevant certifications (e.g., CPA, QuickBooks certification) or equivalent experience are a plus.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience, ideally within a nonprofit organization. Familiarity with federal and state grant reporting is advantageous.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Excel) and capable of adapting to new financial technologies as required.
- Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail and accuracy is essential to maintaining precise financial records and reporting.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess financial data critically and present actionable insights.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Organizational Skills: Exceptional time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Travel: This position may require some local travel for meetings and events, but the majority of work will be conducted on-site at our Hartford, CT, location.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Compensation: $20-$25 hourly based on experience
