ERG is seeking a Building Automation Systems (BAS) Controls Technician with mid- to senior-level experience to assist with facilities projects for a Department of Defense (DoD) client. In this role, you will perform HVAC and BAS control systems installation, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks related to mechanical, electrical, and HVAC system operations and monitoring. The position is on-site at a federal site in Indian Head, Maryland. The ideal candidate should be capable of scoping, estimating, and planning for minor repair projects and must be motivated with the skills to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Job Description:
- Support the full life cycle of small-scale projects from initial concept design through project completion
- Under general direction, acts as the on-site project leader to execute and complete HVAC controls and other BAS projects.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on facilities BAS systems and equipment, including HVAC, electrical, and digital controls.
- Test and write modifications to systems software
- Manages and completes the loading, device verification, and commissioning of all system controllers as required. Validates complete system functionality and resolves issues with subcontractors and others to ensure proper operation.
- Provides accurate project as-built and commissioning documentation.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with facilities and equipment, and repair or replace defective parts as needed
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests
- Download, update, verify software accuracy, calibrate, and test BAS system and other Direct Digital Control (DDC) HVAC systems
- Conduct site visits to document existing facility conditions.
- Prepare technical memoranda/reports to document facility conditions and project status
- Maintain accurate records related to maintenance activities and administrative tasks, including work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, equipment inventory, and time sheets
Qualifications and Skills:
- Must have technical, hands-on experience in system commissioning and/or programming of DDC systems and HVAC control systems.
- Knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital control systems, HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation, and servicing techniques
- Must have knowledge of control theory and HVAC systems and equipment.
- Strong personal computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) and general Windows environment
- Minimum of 5 years of experience without a license or certification OR 2 years of experience if licensed/certified
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in facilities maintenance, engineering, Building Automation System Technology, (BAS), or a related field preferred
- Familiarity with state and local building codes, OSHA regulations, and NFPA standards is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance
- Must be a U.S. citizen as this position is not eligible for Limited Access Authorizations
- This position will require a pre-employment physical exam
- This position requires lifting objects weighing up to 100 pounds
- Work may be performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g., fumes, dust, heat, ionizing, and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals)
- You may be required to participate in medical surveillance programs
- Must be able to stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts
- Must be able to use carts, dollies, hand trucks, and other gear to move items around
- Must be able to go up and down stairs (where applicable)
