Building Maintenance Mechanic - South Florida Water Management District

Accountable to perform facilities maintenance work including daily upkeep of District facilities, preventive maintenance of building systems, building aesthetics and minor structural repairs. Maintains log sheets for comprehensive preventive maintenance program of various building systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, stand by generators, electrical systems and plumbing systems.
Is knowledgeable and skilled in adjusting pneumatic and electric temperature controls, carpet repair and replacement. Performs minor plumbing repairs, repair fixtures such as flushometers, faucets, and trap-primers. Conducts scheduled inspections, equipment service, and maintains records of repairs and completed maintenance jobs.
Coordinates, communicates and interacts regularly with all levels of District staff relative to nature of work order requests, including conference room setups, assisting employees with office configurations, hanging pictures, adjusting system furniture, and replacing lamps. Assists in oversight of contractual services that include janitorial, pest control, and landscape maintenance. Maintains inventory of parts, supplies and equipment in work unit and recommends reorder as required. Maintains and repairs door hardware, door locks, closures, locks and change lock combinations.
Is accountable for building and facility preparation and recovery tasks related to major storms and hurricanes. Position is subject to an assigned 24-hour shift in support of the Emergency Operation Center (EOC).
Working hours are Monday - Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm.
Employment Guidelines
High School Diploma or GED and 2+ years of experience in building and facility maintenance related trade work.
Licenses/Certifications
Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.
Ability to obtain certification in First Aid, CPR, Aerial Man Lift Safety, and Forklift Operations.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.
Position works inside and outside of District administrative buildings, including all administrative service centers, headquarters complex and other facilities that are utilized for the purpose of District. Some exposure to sun, heat, rain, and general outdoors environment when maintaining air conditioning units, making mechanical adjustments, performing carpentry, plumbing, irrigation repairs to facilities. Work during inclement weather for storm preparations and recovery.
Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests and operates equipment to complete assignments. Work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities. Moves or otherwise transports equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
