About the Job
We are seeking experienced, qualified Bus Drivers. The purpose of this position is to pick up students along established bus routes and drop them off at school. The school Bus Driver may also transport students and faculty to special events, such as field trips or sporting events. School Bus Drivers are typically employed full-time during the school year as a 10-month employee, often working split shifts of mornings, afternoons, and/or evenings. Hours are approximately 6.5 to 8 hours daily based on assigned routes. Some drivers are allowed to park their buses at home or convenient locations during off-hours, while others are required to return the vehicles to the school bus terminal.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- In living out our mission*, GAC faculty and staff are expected to actively demonstrate their desire for Christ-like relationships by engaging in full-campus life and ministry with their co-workers, parents, and students.
- Drive the school bus on scheduled routes while being attentive to traffic and weather conditions as well as the safety of the passengers.
- Perform pre- and post-trip safety and maintenance checks; advise the Transportation Supervisor of any maintenance or repair requirements.
- Maintain a safe environment within the bus by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies.
- Track and report fuel usage, timesheets, trip requests, route studies, trouble reports, misconduct reports, accident reports, and other clerical-type activities as may be required.
- Clean the bus as scheduled and/or required.
- Role model courteous and respectful behaviors with students, parents, staff, and the general public.
- Successfully complete any required bus driver training programs and courses.
- Maintain a commercial driver’s license as required by the state of Georgia.
- Obey all traffic laws and transportation practices.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- CDL license with school bus certification is required;
- Above-average knowledge and skill of equipment operation;
- Knowledge of or ability to learn area routes of school buses;
- Ability to effectively communicate using English with students, parents, staff and the general public;
- Flexible, with the ability to work in a highly demanding, stressful environment;
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills;
- First aid and CPR certification is desired;
- Completion of a physical certifying medical ability to drive a school bus;
- Successful completion of school bus driver training programs;
- Successful completion of a background screening, drug/alcohol screening, and reference checking; and,
- Ability to actively demonstrate the desire for Christ-like relationships by engaging in full campus life and ministry with colleagues, parents, and students.
- Successful reference check, background check, and drug/alcohol screen clearance.
