This position is focused on business development for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), sourcing and supporting high growth companies from around the world and helping them expand into London, and trade, enabling UK companies to win clients and investment through our international expansion program, Grow London Global.

Purpose of role
It is client-facing and fast-paced. You will serve as a brand ambassador for London’s tech ecosystem and speak with authority to senior stakeholders about why London is Europe’s leading business hub. Through a creative approach to business development, you will build a sales pipeline of companies considering expanding into Europe as well as a network of innovation leads at major corporates and in the venture capital community. This will be achieved through a combination of in-person networking, cold outreach and representing London & Partners at conferences throughout the US and Canada.
Working with your team, you will also plan and program manage trade delegations from the UK to your sub-territory and visits from VIPs including the Mayor of London and London’s Deputy Mayor for Business & Growth.

Training and mentoring will be provided by your line manager and colleagues as you develop in this position and a background in economic development is not essential. This role would suit self-starters who excel in managing their own schedules and are ready to make an impact.
Key Tasks
FDI Lead Generation
- Identify, engage and build relationships with senior stakeholders at companies in the region who are considering expansion into Europe. These will primarily be across our core sectors: Creative Industries; Enterprise Technology & Business Services; Fintech & Cyber; Life Sciences and Sustainability.
- Develop a firm understanding of tech industry trends and key business strengths of your target cities.
- The successful candidate will be required to think independently and develop their own lead generation strategy.
Trade Programs
- With your team you will plan and deliver trade missions for London’s most disruptive companies and help them win clients and investment in the US.
- You will also advise leadership at these companies on where they should target in your region and assist with creating market entry plans.
- Manage and grow a network of stakeholders to support trade activity in your region.
Business Development Support
- You will manage your own admin to support your sales activity. This includes keeping the CRM (Salesforce) up-to-date.
- Writing briefings for VIP visitors to help them prepare for meetings you have helped to organize.
- Other duties as assigned by your line manager.
You’ll have/bring
The successful candidate will have the following skills:
- Background: 1+ years experience in a sales or marketing environment and enjoy working in a target orientated business.
- Lead Generation: proven experience of generating leads through own efforts, networking, email campaigns, etc.
- Computer Literate: knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is essential. Experience with Salesforce is preferable.
- Enthusiasm & Drive: Bringing energy and positivity to the role.
- Results Driven & Self-Motivated: Able to work independently as required and looking to make an impact.
- Travel: Willingness to travel around your sub-territory is essential. Most years there will also be an annual visit to London and team meeting within the North America region.
Desirable:
- Presentation Skills: should be able to pitch and present to a range of audience sizes.
- Sector Knowledge: should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm for emerging tech sectors and be able to liaise credibly with stakeholders at disruptive companies.
- London/UK: knowledge, experience and passion for London is highly desirable. You should be motivated by the goal of strengthening business links between North America and the UK.
- Economic environment and policy: understanding of political and policy environment issues affecting trade and investment between North America and the UK helpful.
