Overview
Cleary Gottlieb is seeking a Business Development Technology Manager to provide strategic direction to ensure marketing technology is used as an enabler for business development. The Manager will be responsible for defining and communicating the best practice use of the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system (Microsoft Dynamics) and other BD technology to maximize global coordination and opportunity tracking within client relationships. This includes setting, measuring, and reporting on KPIs for global CRM system use, defining dashboards, reporting for optimal utilization and ensuring continuous system improvement and enhancements using generative AI to meet business needs. In addition, this role will support the best practice use of the Firm’s matter database (Foundation), e-marketing tool (Vuture), and further develop an integrated BD and marketing technology stack.
The role requires in-depth expertise and experience in the CRM landscape including experience in best practice, ensuring technology-enabled solutions and engaging stakeholders across global offices to drive adoption and evolution. The role will require dynamic leadership skills, adaptive thinking, and expertise in innovation and data-led insights. The Manager will lead a team and work closely with the Business Development, Marketing and Communications, IT and Knowledge Solutions professionals to implement and evaluate CRM and data-related projects.
Responsibilities
- Enable and utilize marketing and business development technology to provide a complete picture of our clients, enabling teams to anticipate needs, foster collaboration across offices and support strategic growth opportunities.
- Develop and document the firm's CRM strategy, technical requirements, and processes to support business objectives, drive database growth, enhance engagement, and generate actionable insights from reports.
- Leverage technology, including generative AI, and standardize processes to enhance knowledge sharing, efficiency, data quality, and departmental impact across CRM and BD operations and systems.
- Achieve measurable improvements in internal CRM system adoption, data quality, and external client
- Develop and deliver engaging training for attorneys, BDMC, Legal Executive Assistants (LEAs), and other functions on CRM system best practices.
- Supervise the BD Technology team’s day-to-day operations, including insuring that all requests are accurately handled on a timely basis, staffing long-term assignments, technical troubleshooting, evaluating work product and contributions.
- Oversee back-end processes and settings to ensure optimal configuration of marketing and BD Technology systems. Support data integration projects with other Firm systems.
- Minimize manual processes through automation and system
- Deliver strategic, compelling, and accurate deliverables through rigorous quality control processes.
- Implement and uphold industry best practices for CRM governance and global compliance.
- Collaborate closely with the IT department to assess marketing and BD technology applications, and identify and implement solutions, upgrades, or enhancements.
Qualifications
Education/ Experience
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 6+ years of experience in business development, marketing, or technology, preferably within the legal or professional services sector.
Skills
- A track record of successfully working with marketing and BD technologies, CRM systems and experience preferably with Microsoft Dynamics.
- Ability to translate user needs into technology requirements effectively.
- Effective time and project management skills: proven ability to organize and manage a diverse range of projects, prioritizing multiple tasks with competing deadlines across different stakeholders.
- Knowledge or prior experience of Foundation and Vuture is a plus, but not essential.
- Experience in developing best practice and implementing new processes is ideal.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Demonstrated management experience leading a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proactive and takes a hands-on approach. Self-starter, enthusiastic and collaborative mindset is essential.
- Fully able to work as part of a team and to liaise with/motivate partners and senior lawyers.
*The estimated base salary range for this position is $160,000 to $190,000 at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of job-related factors, including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, and performance. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
*This role has the ability to work remotely a maximum of two days per week, in lieu of working onsite. The Firm may designate the specific days you are required to work on-site.
