GENERAL SUMMARY
This position directly supports the Business Lending function in developing new business loan relationships while assessing the needs of members and their businesses to determine appropriate product/service solutions. While under the direct supervision of the VP of Business Lending, the Business Lender II will help generate new business/commercial loan relationships, negotiate loan and fee structures, preliminarily underwrite business loans prior to CUSO (Credit Union Service Organization) submission, underwrite business credit cards, and create and write loan Memos for Lending Committee approval. This position requires an individual with strong organizational and communication skills, highly analytical, strong attention to detail, and decision-making skills. Additionally, this position requires experience in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. This position also requires a strong community connection, including centers of influence (COIs) and a book of business.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- The Business Lender II will handle business relationships requiring a high level of technical business and financial expertise and acts in an advisory capacity with respect to business members’ financial and operational needs.
- Assists in developing the business lending portfolio. Delivers Credit Union business products and services within assigned market. Maintain assigned book of business and develop new member business relationships through cold calling, COI referrals, branch/support center referrals, etc.
- The Business Lender II will obtain all needed information for a business/commercial loan request through member interviews, site visits, financial collection, cash flow analysis, etc.
- Negotiate terms, structure, pricing and origination fees, on business loans with minimal revisions from the VP of Business Lending.
- Underwrite Business credit card requests within Credit Union guidelines. Present package for approval per policy requirements.
- Approve or deny the underwriting credit analysis package from CUSO to ensure cashflows are accurate, collateral meets policy LTV guidelines, and answer to any analyst questions/notes. Create internal Memo and present business loans for approval to the lending committee. Verifies all approved loans are properly documented (loan documentation, flood certs, environmental studies, and insurance) and prepared for loan closings.
- Ability to handle and resolve escalated member issues via phone, email, etc.
- Support the Portfolio & Servicing function as they monitor the loan portfolio on an ongoing basis for delinquency, document follow-up, covenant compliance, and ongoing financial reporting (annual reviews).
- Serves as a liaison to all Erie FCU branches and CUSO. Also works with staff on cross-divisional issues.
- Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed business banking regulatory compliance guidelines. Ensures all commercial loan relationships are in full compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulatory guidelines are in compliance with Credit Union policies. Ensures full compliance with the Credit Union’s Information Security Policies and Procedures.
- Maintains knowledge of credit union products and services, as well as knowledge of the industries or market areas served. Keeps abreast of current developments and market trends, to further identify and service the members’ business lending needs.
- Represents the Credit Union through active participation in community and industry organizations and events and promotes the business interests of the Credit Union. Refers sales opportunities to other departments or Credit Union affiliates in support of strategic Credit Union growth objectives.
- Maintain current knowledge of and compliance with all Credit Union policies and procedures, including compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and all federal laws and regulations as set forth by the NCUA and other regulatory agencies.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
- Keeps abreast of appropriate laws and regulations affecting commercial credit union in general and the extension of business credit in particular. Attends relevant courses and seminars to build expertise as necessary.
- Maintain on-going relationships with business members to keep abreast of member needs and their ability to support current debt. Complete site visits as required to the businesses to determine any additional lending needs or further risk monitoring of the relationship. Provides documentation of all visits and contacts with existing and potential new business members.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Requires professional, well-developed interpersonal, speaking and writing skills for communicating with businesses, members, co-workers and other individuals involved in the business lending process.
- Requires completion of high school education; college degree or higher education preferred.
- Minimum five years of progressively responsible business lending including a book of business and centers of influence.
- Demonstrated ability to cross-sell products and services to fit business client’s needs.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze business tax returns/financial statements, structure loans, recommend, and submit loans for approval to lending committees.
- Effective sales, analytical, organizational, business development, presentation, problem-solving, negotiation and member service skills.
- Demonstrates high ethical standards and personal integrity to build credibility and trust and enhance the Credit Union’s reputation in the lending community.
- Must possess intermediate technology skills in using programs such as, Microsoft Word and Excel, database programs such as Salesforce products, and utilize virtual meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams/Zoom, etc.
- This job may require after hours and or weekends as needed.
- Must maintain a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and be able to travel throughout defined market. Will be traveling and/or working outside the office approximately 50% of the workday.
