Scope of role
The Buyer obtains bids, negotiates pricing, and places Purchase Orders for materials required in support of all Stainless Tank & Equipment manufacturing operations in accordance with Company guidelines, goals, and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities
- Requests supplier quotations and selects best proposal based on lead time, quality, and price
- Negotiates blanket agreements with suppliers for direct and indirect materials to obtain best terms and conditions for Company
- Analyzes direct material requirements based on customer requirements and order materials to meet customer demand
- Conducts supplier performance evaluations on a quarterly basis based on key metrics that include on time delivery
- Manages relationships with direct and indirect suppliers
- Manages favorable purchase price variance (PPV)
- Consolidates/rationalizes supply base
- Supports R&D efforts with required materials and resources
- Expedites materials/commodities as required
- Manages/supports Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) by working closely with vendors on consumables and materials
- Strives for continuous improvement in such matters as on time delivery and cost and quality
- Enforces terms and conditions of purchase orders and compliance with legal requirements and company policy
- Resolves non-conformance issues, back charges and claims in a timely manner to minimize company exposure
- Ensures Reorder Points and Safety Stock levels are maintained at established levels
- Initiates projects that eliminate non-value-added activities, increase quality, and reduce costs
- Monitors commodity trends of steel and take advantage of cost reductions
- Initiates PPV related projects
- Responds to unforeseen developments and initiate actions to reduce adverse impact
- Works with cross functional teams to include Engineering, Quality, and Sales Departments
- Problem solves and communicates effectively with work team
- Contributes ideas for continuous improvement of workflow and processes
- Follows all safety guidelines and procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; Associate’s degree required
- 5-8 years’ experience in purchasing/strategic buying
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, identify, and address problems, meet deadlines, and stay within budget
Interpersonal, Leadership, and Technical Skills
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Excellent organizational skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Professionalism and a positive attitude are a must
- Self-motivated, self-starter
- Ability to work in a variety of environments which may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud noise, and all-weather conditions
