Ingersoll is a global leader in developing advanced machine tools for the world's aerospace, transportation, energy, and other heavy industries. We manufacture the largest metal removal, automated composite placement, and 3D printing machines in the world.
We are seeking a creative, driven, and highly motivated Buyer to join our team!
Summary:
The buyer purchases machined components and welding from requisitions, bills of material, notices of corrections, and defective work tickets. In addition, the buyer negotiates, writes, and enforces contractual agreements and ensures that supplier obligations to Ingersoll are met.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and qualify sources of supply capable of fulfilling the obligations required on the purchase order.
- Act on assigned projects to solve problems quickly and maintain the delivery schedule, whether vendor error or Ingersoll caused.
- Supervise the project to coordinate all functions including, but not limited to, shipping and receiving of parts, quality assurance, vendor processing, engineering changes, and final acceptance.
- Advice management on activities related to the order.
- Write a request for a quote, letter of specifications, bid tabulation, letter of recommendation request approval, and write a purchase order. Supply engineering drawings, specifications, and monitor vendors. Feedback information to production control, project managers, and management on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Participate in design reviews to obtain a ground-level understanding of what is being purchased.
- Assures that all vendor purchases meet Ingersoll's quality requirements and are on schedule.
- Monitor job costs and initiate back charges.
- Liaison between engineering, quality control, and vendors.
- Travel as required to ensure the success of the project.
- Assists with any other tasks as needed.
- Processes defective material reports and negotiates repair or replacement with the supplier.
- Negotiates prices, deliveries, and payment terms.
- Analyzes requirements and determines the need for quotations, selects vendors, and schedules delivery.
- Purchase within the budget and report all over-budget conditions
Qualifications & Experience:
- Three (3) to five (5) years in the materials/procurement field and machined components/welding.
- Must have excellent written, verbal, and listening skills.
- Must be a self-starter who can work well individually and in a team environment.
- Must be well organized and thorough in executing duties.
- Familiar with online purchasing systems
- Ability to read blueprints and comprehend machining and weldment drawings.
- Three years experience with Ingersoll-related products a plus
- Experience buying MRO components, bearings, seals, ball screws, and hydraulic fittings desired
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. In the absence of a bachelor's degree, 3 to 5 years or more of experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at Ingersoll's facilities
