Buyer Job Summary: The Buyer works and negotiates with suppliers to purchase goods and services for the company. Duties include locating suppliers, researching goods, services and materials and processing purchasing orders. The Buyer develops and maintains a supplier base that supports company objectives regarding quality, cost and production requirements in accordance with company policies and procedures.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl when in manufacturing plant and or customer job sites. The employee must frequently move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration when visiting manufacturing plant and or job sites. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions at job site. The noise level at the job site environment can be loud, the noise level in the office environment is normally quiet.
Buyer Tools and Equipment: This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Must be proficient in use of all lifting equipment to include overhead/jib crane, forklift and ladders.

Buyer Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Process purchase orders according to departmental procedures, entering data into the computerized system.
- Assist in training and developing departmental policies and procedures.
- Expedite purchased materials as needed.
- Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records and documents, associated with the purchasing function, supplying relevant information to the accounting, sales, and production functions, as required.
- Confer with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability and delivery schedule. Receives and contacts vendors to find out status of an order.
- Form and maintain positive relationships with vendors base to strengthen the supply chain
- To negotiate best pricing for cost reduction
- To work through discrepancies with quantity, quality and returns for credit
- To address and resolve invoice discrepancies
- By visiting major suppliers as needed
- Create and implement vendor performance measurement systems.
- Problem solving working directly with the Office Manager
- Reviews requisitions and opens POs based on quotes and approvals
- Compile and request quotes for new products and components
- Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority for equipment.
- Work with the operations and customers to ensure 98% on-time delivery based on available raw materials.
- Manage and maintain data through reports for tracking inventory turns and on hand raw materials to help meet goals
- Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations, Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
- Create and develop cost saving initiatives with vendors and across the company
Buyer Education / Training / Experience Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Associate Degree in Business or Materials Management or the equivalent combination of education, training and related experience preferred.
- Prior manufacturing experience preferred
- Understanding of market trends relative to commodity pricing and shipping costs
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications primarily Excel, Outlook and Word.
- Experience using ERP systems. Great Plains preferred.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and math
- Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and work independently within deadlines.
- Strong teamwork skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive and effecting working relationships with multiple departments.
- Careful attention to detail and accuracy required.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
