Cabling Technician

Position Summary: Under direct supervision, installs and maintains the internal telecom cabling infrastructure for all sites and facilities within Covenant Health. Assists in other areas as needed.

Responsibilities:- Works from ladders pulling voice/data CAT5e cabling and/or fiber above ceilings in telecom/data IDF and MDF rooms.
- Works above ceilings installing j-hooks, d-rings, and tie downs using ty-raps and/or 12-cord for attaching voice/data cabling and fiber.
- Terminates CAT5e cabling according to BICSI (building industry consulting service international) standards on 66 blocks, 110 blocks, backboards, MDFs, and wall and rack mounted patch panels.
- Terminates end point cabling to RJ45 and RJ11 telecom standards.
- Installs voice/data cabling on 19”/23” floor mounted racks.
- Installs wire management systems attached to voice/data racks whether standing or wall-mounted.
- Installs single, dual and 4-plex outlet boxes for various jack termination types.
- Transports all cabling equipment and tools to and from various locations and jobs.
- Maintain established department policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement programs, and safety standards.
- Required to work with scaffolding, ladders, crawl spaces, and ceiling areas.
- Assists in the care and maintenance of department equipment.
- Responds to emergency requests for maintenance after normal working hours.
- Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and local building codes.
- Performs duties in other areas of maintenance as required or requested. Responsible for documentation and record keeping of all work performed.
- Local travel required.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education: None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals graduating from a trade or vocational school.

Licensure Requirement: Employee must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license Class D and state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
