Job Description
The Safety Engineer, for California Product Development provides strategic guidance and operational support to sites including, Santa Fe Springs, Irvine, Palo Alto, Long Beach, other occupied buildings. The safety professional functioning in this capacity will be an initiative-taking and dynamic self-starter who will achieve results by implementing the organizations improvement strategies in partnership with both Ford Product Development and Ford NAPD Safety Organization. Effective hazard identification skills, risk mitigation tactics and strategies within a non-manufacturing product development will be required in the successful execution of the safety professional's roles and responsibilities.
This position reports directly to the Product Development Program Manager, with a matrix reporting relationship to the NA Product Development Safety Manager and will work in coordination with the lead Product Development Corporate Sr. Safety Engineers.

This position reports directly to the Product Development Program Manager, with a matrix reporting relationship to the NA Product Development Safety Manager and will work in coordination with the lead Product Development Corporate Sr. Safety Engineers.
Responsibilities:
Safety Engineers will provide support in the identification/development of safety procedures related to technologies in High Voltage products. In addition, provide general support associated with communicating, enabling, and implementing safety actions plans and improvement strategies. Effective communication, human interaction and relationship building skills will be critical to successful execution of a broad-based loss control process.
Safety Engineers will drive process integrity through extensive use of direct verification of the mechanisms, procedures, systems, and activities used to control employee interaction with hazards. Provide technical guidance and support to increase the skills and effectiveness of employees in hazard identification and risk management techniques with the goal of eliminating employee fatalities, reducing the severity and potential for employee injuries while building controls to effectively manage risk.

- Support Processes, Programs and Support Systems:

Effective communication, human interaction and relationship building skills will be critical to successful execution of a broad-based loss control process.
- Verify Hazard Controls and Manage Risk
Safety Engineers will drive process integrity through extensive use of direct verification of the mechanisms, procedures, systems, and activities used to control employee interaction with hazards. Provide technical guidance and support to increase the skills and effectiveness of employees in hazard identification and risk management techniques with the goal of eliminating employee fatalities, reducing the severity and potential for employee injuries while building controls to effectively manage risk.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Consultant on technical / non-technical safety topics, including local and national safety regulations.
- Coordinate and drive continuous improvement in health and safety programs.
- Demonstrate knowledge and ability to take immediate action if an "imminent risk of serious injury" has been identified.
- General support for the Safety Operating Systems.
- Effectively communicate new initiatives, standards, significant incidents, internal and external stakeholders
- Lead and/or participate in incident investigations.
- Provide oversight for health and safety training and orientation.
- Conduct appropriate audits and assessments as required.
- Consult effectively with medical facilities, environmental, fire, and security functions.
- Consult effectively with external statutory authorities, OSHA.
- Support Machinery and Equipment Design Reviews and/or buy-offs.
- Operational knowledge of corporate safety programs.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation and persuasion skills.
Qualifications
- Successful candidates should have a Bachelor's Degree in Safety or Engineering.
- Work experience of at least 5+ years with direct responsibility for all aspects of safety management in a manufacturing or non-manufacturing environment.
- Experience related to HV battery technology and process to electric vehicle or battery integration.
