High Point University is currently seeking a full-time Campus Police Open Rank Position/ Executive Protection Specialist. This position performs general law enforcement duties to ensure education and fair and equitable enforcement of state and local laws relating to public safety and welfare. High Point University seeks sworn officers, who embrace the opportunity to work with a distinct collaborative college campus community, providing protection and contributing to the success of our students through a community-based approach.
This position’s primary duties will include providing executive protection to assigned dignitaries as needed. As a part of these duties this position will be responsible but not limited to the following duties:
• Threat assessment: Understanding potential threats and their severity
• Route planning: Creating secure paths to and from locations
• Defensive driving: Taking courses to ensure the safety of clients
• Accompanying clients: Going with clients on flights, car rides, and other transportation
• Protecting locations: Guarding a location, such as a dressing room, while the client is performing
• Risk assessment: Identifying which executives are at higher risk
• Developing response plans: Creating plans for different scenarios
• Directing other security personnel: Managing other security staff
• Testing security systems: Ensuring security systems are working properly

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Must be certified as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the “North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission” [Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Certification].
- Completion of an Executive Protection Training Program.
- Knowledge of Federal Laws, North Carolina General Statutes, and High Point University policies.
- Ability to meet the requirements of the University’s automobile insurance.
- Ability to prepare written reports of activities and incidents with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to an often-changing working schedule, which may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to complete A.S.P. baton, Capstun, First Aid, CPR, AED operation, Firearms Proficiency certification courses.
- Physical Requirements- Due to the nature of this position, the applicant must be in excellent physical health and be able to successfully complete both the Chase and Apprehension portions of the Police Officers Physical Agility Course (POPAT) in accordance with the B.L.E.T standard.
- Must have vision correctable and able to meet the color vision requirements listed by the North Carolina Training and Standards Commission.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Sworn law enforcement experience in a campus environment.
- Recently retired NC-certified law enforcement officers in good standing.
- Two years of law enforcement experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and experience.
- Experience in providing executive protection services dignitaries.
Requirements:
- No misdemeanor convictions within the past 10 years; No Felony convictions
- No motor vehicle moving violations within the past three years and no alcohol-related convictions within the past 10 years
- Pass drug screening
- Pass a psychological assessment
- Pass a physical ability assessment
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
- Ability to meet the requirements of the University’s automobile insurance
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Job Functions:
- Patrols University property; conducts investigations of all accidents, crimes, and incidents by interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects, through the identification and collection of physical evidence.
- Responds to all emergency calls including potentially violent and life-threatening situations.
- Provides crime prevention strategies, through vehicle, bicycle, and foot patrols.
- Inspects University property for safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, unsecured doors, or other unusual occurrences, refers victims to appropriate services, provides directions, escorts, vehicle and door unlock assistance, and operates necessary equipment.
- Maintains radio communications at all times.
- Renders immediate and temporary medical aid to injured and or ill persons in emergency situations.
- Documents all activities and prepares written reports as required by departmental policy.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, University department heads and employees, faculty, staff, students, parents, complainants, suspects, suspects, victims, witnesses, medical / hospital personnel, emergency response agencies, sales representatives, other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, and the general public.
- Prosecutes offenders as necessary by filing criminal charges, referral to the appropriate University authorities.
Other Functions:
- Prepares and presents testimony in criminal, traffic, judicial hearings and grand jury.
- Provides crowd, parking, and traffic control for athletic events, special University/ public events, etc.
- Provides security escorts for personnel and visitors as requested.
- Exercise care and safety in the use of equipment required to complete assigned tasks.
- Attends required In-Service training sessions and seminars; maintains required level of proficiency in the use of firearms.
- Reviews or oversees the work of less-experienced officers in some circumstances.
- Participates in crime prevention, community-oriented policing efforts, education meetings, workshops, programs, etc.
- Performs related duties as required.
ACCOUNTABILITY
- Reports to the Assistant Vice President for Campus Safety and Chief of Police; subject to change for departmental needs.
